Haven’t I Seen This Before?

Like most fishermen Jerry Smith grew tired of spending so much of his time and effort making chum to attract fish. So Jerry, an electrician by trade, and fisherman by choice was through with cutting and grinding his chum by hand. He took his grinder home and hooked up a portable DC motor to it, thus created the EZ Chummer. Now Jerry can spend more time catching fish or mingling with guests on his boat.

“This works perfectly for me while fishing,” said Smith, who is a member of the Saltwater Fishermen’s Association. “I took a boatload of friends out a few weeks ago, and we had a great time. But, most important is the fact that the EZ Chummer lets a fisherman save his energy for pulling in and landing the big one.”

Smith said he has received quite a bit of positive feedback from the association and has even begun to market his product. While watching TV, he saw an advertisement for Advent Product Development Inc., a South Carolina-based company that has an office in Baltimore, and decided to give them a call. Soon after, Advent was on board.

Advent is shopping the EZ Chummer to potential manufacturers and says production should be fairly straightforward, making it an economically viable product.

It’s a great idea, and I commend you Jerry, but this is certainly isn’t a new idea or product. In fact as I was reading a copy of Saltwater Sportsman earlier today there is an ad for the exact same thing called the Chum Grinder.

Here in Mexico the guides dont use grinders or anything like that. Mostly they just take the bait, Sardina (Mirror Herring, i think) and throw them really hard at the side of the boat to knock them out a bit. Its actually quite amusing and effective.
