As economic difficulties increase in Indonesia, some fishermen have turned to banned fishing methods which are the quickest and easiest way of catching fish.
In the style of Crocodile Dundee, fishermen are tossing dynamite into the water to kill the fish below. Unfortunately using explosives to help catch more fish causes great damage to surrounding sea life such as coral.
Thanks to the World Wildlife Fund, patrols have been set up to help stop the use of explosives and cyanide to catch fish.
Catching the fishermen in the act of illegal fishing is only half the problem however. The other half is trying to arrest disgruntled fishermen.
“When we tried to arrest them, the fishermen threw their bombs at us,” he said.
“It was very dangerous.”
