Quantum Tour Edition PT Baitcaster

With Pike season opening in less than a week I figured it was time to invest in another rod and reel for the year. This year I will be testing out, and by the end of the year reviewing, my new power fishing combo, the Quantum Tour Edition PT Baitcaster, with the “Burner” 7.0:1 gear ratio (28.8 inches of retrieve per crank), and a 6′ 10″ Quantum Tour heavy action rod. Expect lots of update and hands-on impressions as the year progresses.

[...] Ric definitely gets the trophy of the day, landing 6 pike to my 1. Not to mention the 36″ he picked up just before we left. Using my new Quantum PT Tour Baitcaster, with a super fast 7.0:1 ratio, I found it was very hard to slow my presentation down as much as Ric (using a 5.0:1 Abu Garcia Ambassador) and I ultimately paid the price in less fish. Reguardless, I learned a lot about my new gear and had a great time. [...]

[...] Quantum have been making some great reels over the last few years. Not only do they look good, but they have proven to be solid reliable reels. I picked up a Quantum Cabo a couple years ago, and Jon got a Quantum PT and we have been very pleased with each of them. I was checking out the new reels from Quantum and came across their latest low profile baitcaster, the Code. It’s a great looking reel, and it costs less then $100 which makes it an affordable reel for just about any serious fisherman. At that price, we might need to add this reel to our starting lineup. [...]

An Introduction to Fishing Japan – by Adam Guy

Japan, as an island nation, is surrounded by sea: to her east, the vast Pacific Ocean, the west, the Japan Sea and to the north, the Sea of Okhotsk. Correspondingly, Japan is blessed with a great variety of fish and marine life, large quantities of which end up on the nation’s dinner tables. Japan is also fortunate in that her islands span several climate zones. The southern Ryūkyū Islands, including Okinawa, are tropical, and are home to many varieties of reef-dwelling fish and invertebrates; the northern island of Hokkaidō, on the other hand, has a temperate climate similar to a northern European country and is famous for trout, salmon and cod fishing.
