Smallmouth Fishing With Guest John Marshe

John Marshe and I headed out to a small lake about 3 hours from Toronto, it’s one of John’s favorite spots to fish. The lake was comprised of several canals chained together, and the structure and vegitation could change drasticly from channel to channel. The rocky channels seemed to be the most productive and held a great deal of fish, whereas most of the weedy channels seemed to be so weedy and shallow that we couldn’t find even a single bucket mouth anywhere near the slop. Our intentions were to fish for musky, but after an hour or so of no success we decided to switch things up and target smallmouth instead. We caught quite a few in the 1-2 pound range and even spotted some 3-4 pounders cruising in the deep weeds.

John Marshe works with MeegsOnline, “Ontario’s Most Favorite Jig”, and a is frequent contributor to OFN.

Thanks again for taking me out on your boat and sharing with me some of your secret fishing spots and tactics.

Re: Polution Sucks

Blah my stomach is turning. I couldn't imagine our lakes turning to this but it is a possibility. I vote this most disturbing Fishing Fury post of all time!

Re: Potential World Record Pike

Just when i thought the subject had finished, someone has brought it back up again, this has got to be the most talked about picture yet!...I bet the poor bloke who sent the pic in wishes he hadn't bothered!...Pike eh?...They're nothing but trouble!

The thing with this pike that I'm still having trouble with is not so much the three finger thing, but rather the girth of the fish. I've seen lots of pike up close and personal as well as photos of some monster pike but none had that type of girth. It would seem to me that if you compare the size of that pike relative to the man holding it that pike should weight 100 lbs because it's at least half the size of the guy. The fish's head is bigger than his and the rest of the [...]

Re: Get Girls Fishing! A How-To Guide for Men

I laughed, so true. It can be so much fun to take people out fishing. Ans I also find what you have written to hold very true for children as well. If kids are taken fishing, dont "make" them fish, dont make fun of them, be patient and let them develop their own reason for enjoying fishing. I have taken girlfriends, kids, brothers and friends fishing. Patience is the key in my opinion. There are more guys like him out there. Just check out any rivers edge, you'll see us.
