At Fishing Fury, we love shiny things as much as fish do - especially shiny reels. As odd as it may sound, it’s not only important that our reels function well, but that they look great too. Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder when it comes to reels though. Personally I prefer the appearance of a round baitcast reel, where as Jon prefers low profile. One thing with both agree on though, is that if we had the money, we would have a serious collection of pimped out reels. Here’s a list of the reels we wish we had, but probably never will.
It’s been a long time since I’ve been fishing. I was hoping to go ice fishing this winter, but it never worked out. There is still ice on many of the lakes nearby, but trout, smallmouth bass and chain pickerel season opens tomorrow and I’m going fishing even If I have to break the ice to do it. My friend Adrian and I visited a local lake yesterday that has open season year round for fishing, but the only open water was well out of casting distance. I’m very excited about fishing this early in the year. Growing up in Ontario, pike season opened in May, while bass and musky season doesn’t open until June.
I figure it will be another few days of warm weather before the ice melts, but there are some other lakes near my work that have only a little ice remaining. So tomorrow I’ll be fishing on my lunch break!
As incredible as this boat looks, I don’t think I would ever buy one - even if I was a billionaire. I mean, its only 325 feet long. I’d want something bigger then Paul Allen’s 410 footer otherwise I’d just look like a chump.
I’ve always wanted to live on a boat. Having the freedom to fish while sitting back on the couch sounds like a good way to spend a day. Hopefully I’ll be living the dream when I retire, but it will most likely be a sailboat in the British Virgin Islands.
This old footage of tuna fishing in the 1940s in incredible. It must have been great to be a fisherman back in those days before overfishing killed off the majority of big fish in our oceans. Anyone got a time machine I can borrow?
Be sure to check out the second part of this clip on Youtube, they are both amazing.
Earth Hour is on Saturday night (March 29th). In case you don’t know what Earth Hour is, it’s when the world shuts off all their lights and electronics for one hour, starting at 8pm. I’d like to believe that this will somehow magically end global warming, but lets be realistic - Its a Saturday night, do you really expect everyone to stop their partying (not to mention Hockey Night in Canada nights), turn off the lights and sit quietly for an hour? Why didn’t they make it at 4 am Sunday morning, that way everyones a winner.

Hey Peter,
Spoons will catch you several varieties of fish including two of my favorite, barracuda and jacks. If you plan to fish for tarpon the best bet is using live bait and fishing at night. Tarpon can be found though out the Virgin Islands by day and night and you should be able to find them as long as you have good eyesight! (look for schools of baitfish and pelicans)
Anegada probably holds some the best fishing in the BVI with a wide variety of species, including world class bone fishing.
