First Pike

We have been getting plenty of photo submissions from our readers so far in 2008. It’s a good thing too, because Jon and I haven been fishing for months! I think this may be the longest stretch of time I have gone without fishing in years. I can’t complaint though, I’ve been busy with two jobs and raising a four month old little boy.

The weather here in Halifax has been awful lately, now and freezing rain all day long. I’m glad our buddy Mark from across the big pond has had good weather to do some pike fishing though. He was kind enough to send us a photo of his first ever pike, a beauty 8.5 pounder. I’m looking forward to seeing more pike photos coming up, especially once he has a couple custom made spinner baits to try out…

First pike

Hello again, Pike shaped guns, whatever next?! This was my 1st ever Pike I’ve caught, it was on a 7″ Yellow Goldfish deadbait cast out in a Trout Resevoir. I’ve got to admit I let my mate take the hooks out as I about shat my pants when I saw it come to the top! It weighed in at 8 and a half pounds which isn’t bad for a 1st one, the other difference i really noticed is they’re a nightmare to keep a grip on compared to the fat Carp! Cheers lads.

Welcome to the world of pike fishing Mark, and great use of the machine gun hold!

PS. There will be some announcements about prizes for photo submissions in the near future, so keep those photos coming!

Re: Ch-Ch-Cha-Changes

When conditions are right, 40 fish a day is lower range - at the right time you can easily get 75+ Thats Ontario though, don't expect that Nova Scotia!

40 FISH A DAY?!!...I'd be happy with 2 or 3, i can't wait 'till all my pennies are saved up and i come over to sample the fishing in your part of the world, sounds like an angler's paradise!

Gary is correct, the fishing up there is rarely not very good. This trip was from her first year up there and she probably caught an average of 40 fish a day or more. Believe it or not her favorite part was sitting in shallow water and casting her spoon trough the weeds for Pike. Her technique also got her the most walleye on the trip. I agree with ya Woody, nothing like spending the whole day on the water with no electronic toys to dull the day......well except for my portable fish finder. :)

well woody there are never any bad days while fishing in canada. probably my favorite place in the world to go fishing and get away from the rat race!

Re: Rocket Fishing Rod

My daughter wants me to get her a rocket fishing rod for Christmas, even though I did teach her the same way I learned with good ole rod and reel. I have seen more cons then pros with this product, but I don't wanna break her little heart and tell her she's better off with the rod she has now. Any tips to make the news breaking easier for both me and her? Thanks.

Re: Stormy Kromer Hat Contest!

I'm not much for a pithy comment, but I thought I'd leave a note about how honored I be to wear Kromer on my upcoming annual pheasant hunting trip to South Dakota. I'm sure that my hunting buddies will joke about how silly I look while they wear their stylized broad brim hunting caps, but I'll be laughing on the inside as my head stays nice and warm. I'll be laughing al the more when the stiff South Dakota wind picks up and Kromer is staying put. Finally, with the fall bite on, I know my new Kromer will call the [...]
