Vintage Fly Fishing Reels

Last weekend my soon to be father in law gave me a bunch of old fly fishing gear to try out. I got four reels, dozens of flys, a rod, and some old fishing line. The only line is of course unusable, but two of the reels and the rod are in very nice condition and should be perfect for me to get a start of fly fishing. Season opener for bass and trout is just a couple weeks away, so I am very excited. I have very little knowledge of fly fishing gear, but from what I have found online, these are at least 30 year old reels and they don’t hold much value (other then sentimental value of course). If you readers out there know anything about these reels, feel free to share your knowledge.

Re: Ch-Ch-Cha-Changes

Gary is correct, the fishing up there is rarely not very good. This trip was from her first year up there and she probably caught an average of 40 fish a day or more. Believe it or not her favorite part was sitting in shallow water and casting her spoon trough the weeds for Pike. Her technique also got her the most walleye on the trip. I agree with ya Woody, nothing like spending the whole day on the water with no electronic toys to dull the day......well except for my portable fish finder. :)

Re: Rocket Fishing Rod

My daughter wants me to get her a rocket fishing rod for Christmas, even though I did teach her the same way I learned with good ole rod and reel. I have seen more cons then pros with this product, but I don't wanna break her little heart and tell her she's better off with the rod she has now. Any tips to make the news breaking easier for both me and her? Thanks.

Re: Stormy Kromer Hat Contest!

I'm not much for a pithy comment, but I thought I'd leave a note about how honored I be to wear Kromer on my upcoming annual pheasant hunting trip to South Dakota. I'm sure that my hunting buddies will joke about how silly I look while they wear their stylized broad brim hunting caps, but I'll be laughing on the inside as my head stays nice and warm. I'll be laughing al the more when the stiff South Dakota wind picks up and Kromer is staying put. Finally, with the fall bite on, I know my new Kromer will call the [...]
