New Theme!

I’ve been working very hard this past week to come up with a new theme for Fishing Fury, it would have been online a lot sooner but I’ve been stricken with a horrible flu the past few days. With this theme we thought maybe it would be a good time to try a white background and see how it works out, we may keep this same layout but change the background to black in the future depending on what our fans think.

I’ve integrated a number of cool features into this theme that I think will really set it apart from our previous themes and make your overall experience even better.

1. This theme should have much less rendering issues and has been heavily tested in IE 5.0, IE 5.5, IE 6.0, IE 7.0, Opera 9, Firefox 2, and Safari for windows (sorry, I don’t have a Mac to test).

2. Partner Feeds: There are a few sites that are related to Fishing Fury, like our personal blogs, Clive’s (up and coming) Rockstar Lure blog, and our favorite contributor Adam Guy’s new Japanese fishing blog (The Compleat Tsuribito). These are located at the bottom of the page.

3. Recent Comments/Most Commented: Also located at the bottom of the page, you can see which posts are being commented on right now and those with the most comments.

4. Gallery Feature: When browsing by category, or when viewing a single post, there is now a gallery feature insert at the top of the page. It will pull the categories out of the top most post on the page you’re viewing and use those categories to pull a random set of image from our new photo gallery (Catch The Fury).

Please comment and let us know what you think, we’d love to hear your input!

Glad to see it working in Opera finally!

Ya, now you just have to make sure to close your tags properly in the feature insert ;)

Jonathon Marshall on April 13th, 2008 @ 6:35 pm

lol, all I did was replace links and text - maybe you need to close your tags!

BTW, there seems to be a small bug in the time_since function used for the comments plugins. It should be fixed soon, I think its probably a wordpress/day light savings issue.

I thought i’d clicked on the wrong site this morning! Looks very bright! I don’t know if it’s ’cause i’ve been used to seeing it in black for so long but i’m impressed with the new look, thumbs up from me anyway. Mark

I like the new look!
Thanks for the feed.
I’ve got a new ‘From the table of…’ set of photos from a fishing trip last month. Can I send them to you?

adam on April 14th, 2008 @ 11:02 am

I’ve seen the light, Hallelujah I’ve seen the light. Looks good boys, kinda like FF is done hybernating for the winter , bring on the Fishing season!!

I’m just a random schmuck who got skunked at the pond this weekend, but I think the site looks slick as hell.

Timmy Mac on April 14th, 2008 @ 11:59 am

Hold on, stop the press, when i loooked 1st thing this morning the homepage had a photo of jon standing in a boat, is this gonna be like a screen saver that changes every day on it’s own or is it final tweaks? If i were you i’d have the pic with the monster Pike, that would piss plenty of people off!

Woody on April 14th, 2008 @ 5:19 pm

Adam, we always love to have your features here! Just email me the details..

Woody, for now we only have two header images so it will rotate between them, but we hope to have enough to rotate them one a day on a weekly basis soon. Maybe even have one a day on a monthly basis in the future.

Jonathon Marshall on April 14th, 2008 @ 6:03 pm

Fixed another bug in the comments plugin where URLs, or really long words, would cause some content to be pushed out of the main column.

Jonathon Marshall on April 23rd, 2008 @ 4:25 pm

Jon, I e-mailed some pics to your gmail address.

adam on April 29th, 2008 @ 1:13 am

Don’t worry I’ve got them, they’ll be up soon.

Jonathon Marshall on April 29th, 2008 @ 2:11 am

Just checking!
I’ll be sending you some general fishing photos for catch the fury soon too.

Re: Ch-Ch-Cha-Changes

Gary is correct, the fishing up there is rarely not very good. This trip was from her first year up there and she probably caught an average of 40 fish a day or more. Believe it or not her favorite part was sitting in shallow water and casting her spoon trough the weeds for Pike. Her technique also got her the most walleye on the trip. I agree with ya Woody, nothing like spending the whole day on the water with no electronic toys to dull the day......well except for my portable fish finder. :)

Re: Rocket Fishing Rod

My daughter wants me to get her a rocket fishing rod for Christmas, even though I did teach her the same way I learned with good ole rod and reel. I have seen more cons then pros with this product, but I don't wanna break her little heart and tell her she's better off with the rod she has now. Any tips to make the news breaking easier for both me and her? Thanks.

I worked so hard this weekend, the shirt fell right offen me, so I need that shirt more than ANYONE else! Love your site!

Re: Stormy Kromer Hat Contest!

I'm not much for a pithy comment, but I thought I'd leave a note about how honored I be to wear Kromer on my upcoming annual pheasant hunting trip to South Dakota. I'm sure that my hunting buddies will joke about how silly I look while they wear their stylized broad brim hunting caps, but I'll be laughing on the inside as my head stays nice and warm. I'll be laughing al the more when the stiff South Dakota wind picks up and Kromer is staying put. Finally, with the fall bite on, I know my new Kromer will call the [...]
