Photoshop

K Nelson on April 15th, 2008 @ 9:36 am

How come he only has 3 fingers on each hand?????

K Nelson on April 15th, 2008 @ 9:38 am

That’s a scam for sure, that would bust yer back holding it up for it’s picture and the bloke’s face doesn’t look as if he’s just got a potential record, ban him and all his fake pics!

Woody on April 15th, 2008 @ 12:12 pm

Yeah, the three finger thing is really odd.

Clive Mathias on April 15th, 2008 @ 1:10 pm

If it was photoshop you’d have thought he’d put more fingers on himself, ban him and his 3 fingers! Unless he’s just a really clumsy fisherman that doesn’t get his fingers out of the way of Pike jaws quick enough!

Woody on April 15th, 2008 @ 2:11 pm

I heard that this fish was caught on rainy lake by one of Clives cousins…..

Another FAKE!!

Hi all,

I’m the one that has that photo hosted on my flickr account. First, no one was claiming this was a world record. It is not my photo if you go to the photo page and read clearly it states - “Large northern pike caught in the netherlands”

I don’t know what can be more clear than that. About 2 years ago, an online news article out of the Netherlands had an article about a recent catch. This is the photo that ran in that paper. I have preserved it here for fun of seeing it. There is nothing to suggest this is photoshopped. There were no details that I could read or understand that said what it was. But there never was a mention of world record or anything like that.

Carl Christensen on May 1st, 2008 @ 10:00 am

Hey Carl, thanks for the info. I know it doesnt say that it is a world record, but if it is a legitimate photo, it very well could be - its huge!!

Clive Mathias on May 1st, 2008 @ 10:06 am

Whether that fish is real or a fake, it IS one impressive picture. If the guy catches Pike that size, that would probably explain why he is missing some fingers.

Tom T. on May 21st, 2008 @ 10:38 pm

The picture is real. This pike is 120cm and weighs 36lbs. The official Dutch record is a 138cm pike weighing almost 40 lbs. There’s more pictures of this fishing team at http://www.metersnoeken.nl. Click on the right on “120+ van Team Metersnoeken” to see this picture and more. Also has pictures of pike caught in Canada and Sweden.

I’m in no way affiliated with these guys, just saw this post and remembered I saw this photo before :-)

I often fish for pike here: http://www.roofvisser.nl/vissers/chris-van-gellekom/05-02-2006-chris-van-gellekom-aalsmeer-snoek-118cm.html

Sander on May 27th, 2008 @ 5:29 pm

That is a helluva pike. Maybe not a world record, but who cares. As for photoshopping it… What fisherman spends all his time at his computer photoshopping things? As for they way he’s holding it… these are 30-50lbs fish… any adult should be able to hold up 30-50lbs.

Josh on July 30th, 2008 @ 4:57 pm

The thing with this pike that I’m still having trouble with is not so much the three finger thing, but rather the girth of the fish. I’ve seen lots of pike up close and personal as well as photos of some monster pike but none had that type of girth.
It would seem to me that if you compare the size of that pike relative to the man holding it that pike should weight 100 lbs because it’s at least half the size of the guy. The fish’s head is bigger than his and the rest of the fish is at least as large as the man’s torso.
I remain skeptical.

Just when i thought the subject had finished, someone has brought it back up again, this has got to be the most talked about picture yet!…I bet the poor bloke who sent the pic in wishes he hadn’t bothered!…Pike eh?…They’re nothing but trouble!

Woody on August 27th, 2008 @ 4:05 pm

Hi all,
I am Dick van Hattem. The men who caught this wonderfull pike in the Netherlands.
The pike was actualy 120 cm long, weight exactly 16.5 kilo’s and was caught on a death perch on 10 meter deep water on 27 december 2000.

But now…. the photo was shopped for fun. I had a reading for a fishingclub and this was the last picture of the reading I had for 100 quest. Name of the picture…. I have a dream….. Everybode was laughing. Really funny, never claimed the world record. Because it is not by far.

http://www.metersnoeken.nl/index.php?option=com_content&task=section&id=13&Itemid=48 here you can find the original picture. Only the back ground was shopped because I did not want to tell every body where this pike was swimming.

Last winter I caught a even more big pike.
That one was 130 cm and weighing over 20 kilo, 45lbs.

Check the complete article over here:
http://www.metersnoeken.nl/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1574&Itemid=26

Best regards
Dick.

Re: Ch-Ch-Cha-Changes

Gary is correct, the fishing up there is rarely not very good. This trip was from her first year up there and she probably caught an average of 40 fish a day or more. Believe it or not her favorite part was sitting in shallow water and casting her spoon trough the weeds for Pike. Her technique also got her the most walleye on the trip. I agree with ya Woody, nothing like spending the whole day on the water with no electronic toys to dull the day......well except for my portable fish finder. :)

well woody there are never any bad days while fishing in canada. probably my favorite place in the world to go fishing and get away from the rat race!

Re: Rocket Fishing Rod

My daughter wants me to get her a rocket fishing rod for Christmas, even though I did teach her the same way I learned with good ole rod and reel. I have seen more cons then pros with this product, but I don't wanna break her little heart and tell her she's better off with the rod she has now. Any tips to make the news breaking easier for both me and her? Thanks.

Re: Stormy Kromer Hat Contest!

I'm not much for a pithy comment, but I thought I'd leave a note about how honored I be to wear Kromer on my upcoming annual pheasant hunting trip to South Dakota. I'm sure that my hunting buddies will joke about how silly I look while they wear their stylized broad brim hunting caps, but I'll be laughing on the inside as my head stays nice and warm. I'll be laughing al the more when the stiff South Dakota wind picks up and Kromer is staying put. Finally, with the fall bite on, I know my new Kromer will call the [...]
