World Record Laremouth Bass

The world record largemouth bass was caught by George W. Perry in Telfair County, Georgia on June 2, 1932 and weighed 22 pounds, 4 ounces. While no photo of Perry and his bass has ever been produced, sources say this photo shows Perry’s fishing partner with the record catch.

There have been two bass said to be larger than Perry’s, but neither have ever been recognized as official records.

I might be wrong but wasn’t the 1st blokes Bass foul hooked or something and that’s why i didn’t count?….That was about a 25lber as well i think, haven’t seen the other one before, why didn’t his count, it looks massive!

Funny you mention that Martin, I just read that yesterday and have started a post about it. Should be up later today.

Mark: The bottom bass on the left was indeed foul hooked, but the one on the right I think was a legitimate catch. I heard the reason it was never recognized because it was not weight on an certified scale.

Clive Mathias on June 6th, 2008 @ 9:11 am

one on the left is dottie , one on the right was caught on live trout which is illegal from what i heard ….

szomo on June 6th, 2008 @ 10:12 am

sorry and yeah the one on left “dottie” was foul hooked which is why she wasnt counted leading to much speculation .. In that photo she would have smashed the record i think by atleast a pound or so …

szomo on June 6th, 2008 @ 10:14 am

So if “Dottie” was foul hooked, surely the bloke would have just waited around until no one was looking and shoved the Bass in a net back in the water and then hooked it properly later on dragged it back out making loads of noise to get attention and claim his title as the Bass King of all time!!!

Woody on June 6th, 2008 @ 2:27 pm

There i go again making stupid comments before i’ve read the details, just shoot me now!!!…………That is one hell of a fish in anybody’s eyes though……..What would the kind of age be on it do you think? I don’t know the average lifespan of Bass but to get that kind of size it must have been very old. (Although if it was still spawning it couldn’t be that ancient.)

Woody on June 6th, 2008 @ 2:47 pm

im not sure , i think a bass would top out at like 20 years maybe …

wiki claims “The fish can live as long as 23 years.”

Re: Ch-Ch-Cha-Changes

When conditions are right, 40 fish a day is lower range - at the right time you can easily get 75+ Thats Ontario though, don't expect that Nova Scotia!

40 FISH A DAY?!!...I'd be happy with 2 or 3, i can't wait 'till all my pennies are saved up and i come over to sample the fishing in your part of the world, sounds like an angler's paradise!

Gary is correct, the fishing up there is rarely not very good. This trip was from her first year up there and she probably caught an average of 40 fish a day or more. Believe it or not her favorite part was sitting in shallow water and casting her spoon trough the weeds for Pike. Her technique also got her the most walleye on the trip. I agree with ya Woody, nothing like spending the whole day on the water with no electronic toys to dull the day......well except for my portable fish finder. :)

Re: Rocket Fishing Rod

My daughter wants me to get her a rocket fishing rod for Christmas, even though I did teach her the same way I learned with good ole rod and reel. I have seen more cons then pros with this product, but I don't wanna break her little heart and tell her she's better off with the rod she has now. Any tips to make the news breaking easier for both me and her? Thanks.

Re: Stormy Kromer Hat Contest!

I'm not much for a pithy comment, but I thought I'd leave a note about how honored I be to wear Kromer on my upcoming annual pheasant hunting trip to South Dakota. I'm sure that my hunting buddies will joke about how silly I look while they wear their stylized broad brim hunting caps, but I'll be laughing on the inside as my head stays nice and warm. I'll be laughing al the more when the stiff South Dakota wind picks up and Kromer is staying put. Finally, with the fall bite on, I know my new Kromer will call the [...]
