14.9 Pound Pickerel!

In North America, pickerel (often called walleye) are considered one of the best tasting fish. The typical size is 1-5 pounds, but if you are lucky, you’ll catch some over 10 pounds. If you are really lucky (not to mention skilled), you’ll get a beauty like this 14 pounder caught at Olive The Lake on the Marten River in Ontario.

The only way to accurately measure the length of a fish this size is to use a beer bottle.

We honestly thought that it was a log coming in….until it hit the boat(literally)…. there was a panic onboard when the guests saw it…..”I have never seen a fish caught this big on an inland lake before, hell I have never seen a fish that big caught anywhere”.

It was caught in 25 feet of water with the basic yellow jighead and worm, back to the basics I guess… even though technology has advanced in the world the older fish still like the basic presntations.

Its like my grandfather said …Good things come to those who bait…

The beer bottle was the only thing on board to measure the length. The beer bottle was not harmed in the picture and the fish was released back into the lake.

Re: Stormy Kromer Hat Contest!

I'm not much for a pithy comment, but I thought I'd leave a note about how honored I be to wear Kromer on my upcoming annual pheasant hunting trip to South Dakota. I'm sure that my hunting buddies will joke about how silly I look while they wear their stylized broad brim hunting caps, but I'll be laughing on the inside as my head stays nice and warm. I'll be laughing al the more when the stiff South Dakota wind picks up and Kromer is staying put. Finally, with the fall bite on, I know my new Kromer will call the [...]
