Blacktip Fishing In North Carolina

I’ve caught a few blacktips in my day, but none anywhere near as big as these guys!

North Carolina blacktip sharks

Just wanted to say I love the site. Wanted to share some pictures of a recent fishing trip we had off the coast of NC. Me and four friends chartered a boat, same guys that we always use out of Little River, SC. I had the feeling that they didn’t feel like going to the Gulf Stream that day, so they talked us into shark fishing. None of us had done it before and let me just say it was one of the most fun 10 hours I had on a boat. We caught some nice blacktips, got boarded by the coast guard…you know, just a typical day. Hope you enjoy them.

Nice fish, i take it shark conservation isn’t that high on most peoples list though, they would have looked a whole lot nicer not being covered in blood.

While I agree that the photos are better without blood, they are well within their rights to keep a shark. Fishing regulations are pretty strict throught out most of North America.

Here in Nova Scotia, all sharks must be released unless caught in a tournament, and then they must be donated to science.

To be fair we should post more shark/human attack photos ;)

yeah, i know the blood kinda ruins the pics, but just to say, we caught our legal limit. I (the middle picture with the teal shirt on) caught the first big one, and that is the one we kept. For black tips in North and South Carolina, you are allowed one per boat, so we kept mine. The other two caught by my friends were released. For other smaller species you are allowed three per boat, but we only caught one (not per person, but only one person) and we did keep that one. So for ten hours we bagged two sharks. I will say this though, there are only a few times when you get a serious rush. Holding a 80-90lbs shark still alive for a photo op is a serious rush. In that day we probably caught 30 sharks and only kept those two. Awesome day, nothing fights quiet like a shark.
