Name That Fish!

I figure I know quite a bit about fish. I read a lot about different species and I’m always happy to come across new fish I don’t know about. So here’s a new game to test and expand your fish knowledge, name that fish!

TIP: This fish has made an appearance on Fishing Fury before!

UPDATE: The correct answer is Pirarucu!

    Hi. That is a “PIRARUCU”, arapaima gigas, a Brasilian north land fish (Amazon river and tributaries). It’s probably the actually biggest fresh water scaled fish. His flesh is very good eating, fresh or salty. Nowadays, this fish is in extinction risk.

    According to Wikipedia:
    The arapaima, pirarucu, or paiche (Arapaima gigas) is a South American tropical freshwater fish. It is one of the largest freshwater fish in the world.
    Arapaima can reach lengths of more than 2 m (6.6 ft), in some exceptional cases even more than 2.5 m (8.2 ft) and over 100 kg (220 lbs). The often cited maximum length of 4.5 m (14.8 ft) comes from a single second-hand-report from the first half of the ninteenth century, and is not an actual fact.

    yup. Pirarucu. Loads of those things here in Japan. All the aquariums have ‘em. You can even get them in pet shops or see them in fish tanks in bars. Occasionally, you might see one in a small lake or pond as people tend to release unwanted pets into the local bodies of water. A massive fish.

    Beat me to it. Unmistakeably pirarucu. They have a couple of monstrous examples as inmates in the London Aquarium.
