There are wonderful and magical places in the world that don’t get snow like we do here in Canada. Brazil for example. Now as nice as it to have warm weather all year, they miss out on winter sports like skiing, hockey and ice fishing. Well these guys have discovered something way better then ice fishing. Instead of cutting through ice, they cut through thick plant vegetation. The result speaks for itself!

Fugu In case you ever eat fugu, make sure you ask the chef to see his fugu license.

Seven men in Tokyo ended up in the hospital after eating some fugu that was not prepared correctly. They developed limb paralysis and had trouble breathing before they finally started to lose consciousness and were rushed to hospital. Luckily none of them have died.

The owner and chef had no formal training on the correct preparation of fugu and could face charges of professional negligence.

    Fugu Facts:
    - Blowfish poison, called tetrodotoxin, is nearly 100 times more poisonous than potassium cyanide, according to the Ishikawa Health Service Association

    - It can cause death within an hour and a half after consumption

    - Three people died and 44 others were sickened by blowfish poisoning in 2007 — most of them after catching the fish and cooking it at home — according to the Health Ministry

Its been a while since I’ve played a really good fishing game. I’ve tried about on the Wii, but I haven’t been terribly impressed despite the unique controls. There are at least four or five Wii fishing games currently, and there’s another on the way. No date yet on a North American release, but here is the Japanese debut trailer.

The graphics aren’t the greatest, but it looks like this game will have both fresh and saltwater locations and species!

It will be released in North America under the name Reel Fishing Anglers Dream.

The World Record Catch & Release Musky

We first broke the story about the newest “world record” musky last week. I use quotes because this beauty was released to live another day. As many of you probably know, in order to have a proper world record, the fish has to be weighed on a certified scale and the stomach contents need to be examined. Ultimately the fish will die, which is quite possibly the worst outcome of such a beautiful moment. And probably why I’ll never be a world record holder.

Check out this video from the local news where they talk to the lucky, and responsible, fisherman.

The idea of a separate catch and release category of the world records sounds great, probably a logistical nightmare for the record keeper though.
