Gone Fishing – The Hardest Rocking Fishing Experience!

The typical format for a fishing show is to find a tournament fisherman, or someone who has fished they’re whole life, and wrap a show around them featuring country music. Make sense I guess, you get a knowledgeable host and you hopefully learn a thing or two about fishing and people in the southern USA sure love the music. The only question is, are they entertaining? And in the end, this is why many fishing shows fail, they don’t entertain the viewers and if there are no viewers, there are no sponsors, which means no money, and eventually no show. There have been dozens of shows that I watched growing up that are no longer aired for this very reason.

So why not change the recipe, think outside the box? Well that’s what we do at Fishing Fury, and that’s what they do in Finland.

Whats the first thing you think of when you think of Finland? Heavy metal? Gothic rock? Horror punk? Gothic metal? Yeah, take all that and throw it at a fishing show and heres what you get.

The Gone Fishing Experience is a show which takes the hardest rocking stars to the middle of nowhere for a tranquil, reflective yet exciting fishing experience. The show aims to go deeper and uncover more about its stars than any other interview. As the audience learns about them, they learn about themselves.

The show features Jyrki from The 69 Eyes.

Awesome. Will there be a black metal sub series? Fishing with Gorgoroth?

Oh, and I’m just putting this out there, but fishing in Brazil with Sepultura was all my idea ;)

Funny that,I am having an on going argument with the producers of this program as well as the fishing guide company they used for this show. Finland has a terrible track records with regards to the handling of fish…especially the pike, and guides featured on these kinds of shows need to promote not only decent catch and release policies but also correct handling of shown caught fish.swinging a pike by its bottom jaw with lip grip without supporting its body with your other hand is just plain negligent….to say the least. Although I like the concept of the show I feel there could be a lot more done to promote the sport of fishing within it,especially when so many younger people will be watching their idols doing it.
Sorry for sounding so negative Jonathon

I totally agree with you about the handing of the pike. Around here people don’t care much about pike, but if a musky was handled that way people would be up in arms!

Simon, you bring up a good point. Though the fish I saw dangling by the lip grip was pretty small, still your point isn’t any less valid and I also hate seeing any fish miss handled.

And that rocker guy bugs me. What a stupid show. I want that narrator to shut up.

I dig the narrator! And the host Jyrki is not a great fisherman, I think thats what I like about it, he isn’t a know it all like many other hosts out there, he seems sincere.

Now he just needs to learn how to release a fish properly!

Really? It all just seems so pointless. As though we are supposed to relate to him for his gentle down to earth side. He’s fishing badly!
If they made it comical, I’d get it. “Let’s take the rock stars fishing! Watch them fall out of the boat and squirm over the worms!”

I think anytime you take someone out of their element and make them do something they don’t normally do theres lots of room for humor.

I don’t think they ever claim he knows what hes doing – its a learning experience for him. At some point we all probably handled a fish incorrectly, but have learned overtime what to do and what not to do.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see if he learns, or keeps making the same mistakes.

Chris, have you ever seen Fishing With John? It has sort of the same appeal, its pretty good though not all of the guests are big fisherman. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_QojSAntAo

I really like seeing someone new to fishing picking up the gear and giving it a shot.

Ultimately the editing is what’s going to make or break your show, in my opinion at least.
