Record Tiger Muskie Caught Through The Ice!

Its not often you see a big muskie caught through the ice, especially not a tiger muskie!

Record tiger muskie

“Lakeland resident Tom Boise, 49, caught a gargantuan, 27-pound, 5-ounce tiger muskie through the ice on Otisco Lake Saturday while fishing in a derby sponsored by the Moondance Restaurant. The fish appears to have broken the existing world record for a tiger muskie caught with a tip-up, according to a spokesman today from the Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame in Hayward, Wisc.”

The fish was 45.5 inches long and had a girth of 22.5 inches!

Oddly enough I had a girlfriend who lived fairly close to that lake many years ago, and I never bothered to fish it. If only I had known there were big muskie around!

Dang, that is one stunning looking fish.I wrote an article when I started my blog last year about the differences in Colouration between lake caught pike and pike caught here in the Baltic sea. The colouration of that tiger tells me that the water conditions in lake Otisco are just pristine. What a fight it must have given him on a drop down rig.

By the way Jonothan there is a fishing guide close to us in Sweden Called Jocke that runs a blog…here is his site address http://predatorjocke.blogspot.com/
Unfortunately its all in Swedish but he has been posting some truly monster pike being pulled out from the ice this winter.Thought you might like to have a look at a few of the fish being caught here on the Baltic sea.

I’ll have to check out that article about colouration…I don’t know for sure about the lake conditions, but I can tell you lakes near by are FAR from pristine.
