I am an expat and have just retired to a beach front in Bali, Indonesia. Sadly I never forsaw the garbage problem here as it was in the capital city Jakarta. Local ferry boats plying from Bali to Lombok Island collect garbage from travellers on board then empty it into our bay during stopovers. Plastic bags, bottles and sandals litter our beautiful beach and the prestine coral is snagged with plastic bages. Local dry river beds are garbage tips in the dry season and during monsoons it all comes to the sea. You cannot blame the ignorant masses. There is no adequate disposal system by the government. You can only blame the useless, stupid and corrupt government, local officials and elders. I cry for paradise lost. What a sad world.
