Bass VS Bird

Mark down one point for the good guys! This little bass didn’t let his stature prevent him from making a quick meal of a bird. The real question is, how did this happen? I mean, we’ve heard of pike taking ducklings, but ducks are in the water. This little bird certainly wasn’t a water foul. Any ideas?

This fish knows that the bird is the word.

Could be MB – I always figured bass for predators rather then scavengers though!

I reackon MB is right and i also think that if the Bass can smell the meat in the water, it’s gonna eat it whether it’s a Predator or Scavenger, just my opinion though.

In my own experiences with bass fishing using minnows and worms I noticed that bass wouldn’t strike when the bait was dead, but you never know!

I will have to say that this was a baby bird that couldn’t fly well just yet and fell into the water. That bird is no longer the word.

Im no ornithological scientist or anything but I would have to disagree with Chris. I see fully formed talons and feathers. The bird, in case you had not heard, is still the word.

Not a tiny bald baby bird. Like a teenage bird trying to fly out of the nest with feathers and claws. Or maybe it was somebody’s luck bird foot key chain that fell out of their pocket on overboard.

That would be a very difficult pattern to tie!

Probably was already dead. Possibly could have been a windy day, giving the bird motion.

I know exactly how it happened. I witnessed it yesterday at a local stream. A small bird was hopping around on some branches that were running down into the water. He got a little too close to the water and a large mouth bass came up from the water and attacked! He missed, but not by much….the bird flew off minus a few feathers. :-)
