Muskie On The Fly

There are are only a handful of muskie fishermen out there who don’t think catching muskie is hard enough using conventional reels. To make things a bit more challenging, they rely on out smarting freshwater’s most fearsome fish with flies!

Check out this huge 52 inch muskie caught on a Swimtrue custom fly. Make sure you have a look at their site, they produce some seriously good looking flies for catching muskie.

Very impressive, but I gotta wonder how long it takes to bring a biggun in on a fly. If it takes too long, the fish will suffer dire consequences. Very nice fish though!

Looks like he has some pretty stout equipment to me. Most muskie fly fishermen also fish with baitcast reels and know they need the right gear to get the fish in fast.

Thanks for the positive comments about my muskie flies! While I can’t vouch for every crazy bugger who wants to catch muskie on the fly, in this case I know the fisher in question,Nick Pujic, very well.He told me this muskie was in the net in under 3 minutes.
Nowadays with the advancements in fly tackle whether it be for tarpon, marlin or muskie there’s no reason why you can’t use stout tackle like a 10wt or 12wt fly-rod to get these fish to the net as quickly as possible.
The key is to use the right tackle for these magnificent fish.
Take a look at my web site for more information on this subject.
    Cheers, Graham

Not any longer than conventional gear. Remember fly fishermen were some of the first to practice catch and release. All fish are special big ones like this and 8″ brookies.
