World Record Largemouth Bass Chasers
It has been more then a year since Dottie, the biggest bass ever caught on a rod and reel, died. Some believed the dream of beating a world record that has stood since 1932 died with her. A year ago, no one would have predicted the next giant bass would be caught in Japan of all places. I’ve been waiting to hear more about the potential record tying bass, but very little new has made it way here to North America. Some say that exclusive rights were purchased for the story, so it still could be a while before we learn more.
Many men and women have dedicated countless hours in search of the world record bass, but few have had the dedication of Mac Weakley, Mike Winn and Jed Dickerson. These guys spent every second they could trying to catch Dottie, here is their story…
I’ll see what I can find out.
The latest news is in! It looks as if this bass is going to be disqualified as a new world record largemouth! If everything that is coming out of Japan and ICAST 2009 is true, then this bass will not becertifed as a new world record by the IGFA. It appears as if this bass was caught in an off limits area of the Lake and the IGFA does not accept world records from areas such as this. Will George Perrys recordstill stand?
Looks as though it might, giving a lot of California and Texas bass anglers a new ray of hope. Here we go again. I can’t wait to see how this is going to turn out in the next few weeks. I wrote to the Japanese agency responsible for certifying the catch and here is their response as of July 31st, 2009.
UPDATE FROM JAPAN!! 7/31/09
The angler submitted a world record application to Japan Game Fish
Association. We are in the process of checking it; as soon as it is
confirmed of its validity, the application will be forwarded to the IGFA for a
world record. Because it was a very important catch, we need to take
enough time to make sure everything is correct and IGFA-legal.

**** Note*** You only have 30 days to subit an IGFA application for a world record if its in the United States!, But you have up to 90 Days if its not in the country!** So we may have to wait 50 more days to see whats up with this strange, almost unmarketable world record bass.***!!
Even If this bass is submitted to the I.G.F.A. to be certified, which at this point, I don’t think it will be), I really doubt that it will be certified at all even as a tie. Once again, We were doupted by a Mullet wearing, Bleached Blonde headed Elvis Impersonator! Help!! Where’s Mike Long and Mac Weakley when you need them. Lets put this baby to bed and get on with a serious record we can all be proud of, and maybe when we do catch the “REAL” world record largemouth, it will not look as if it has a diaper rash!!

Congratulations to Manabu Kurita. He is a true trophy hunter dedicated to the pursuit of world record bass like no other. I am proud to say that in the past year he has become one of my closest friends, Another person who helps him a great deal but receives no real credit is Reika Ishaguro who designs his website, communicates his thoughts and wishes to me and others, and also is a great angler in her own right. Manabu and Reika are good friends and you can talk with both of them at my website at World Record Trophy Bass Fishing http://delawaretrophybass.com
Tight lines, and best of luck to all trophy hunters the world over on the next world record. Steve Owner
