The Ugly Stik

There are few fishing rods as easily recognizable as the Shakespeare Ugly Stick. They’ve been around for 30 years and are the number one selling rod of all time. I own four of them myself, and they have never let me down. I’ve called the Ugly Stik the best rod in the world, and I’ll stand by that. I’ve put these rods to the test on multiple species and the Ugly Stik has always come out on top, see for yourself!

Ugly stiks are great, durable rods. I have one that I got in the 80’s and it needs to be retired. Several of the guides are getting loose and it’s just plain worn out. It’s caught far too many fish to even imagine….from literally hundreds of Sockeye and Pink Salmon in Alaska, to Walleye and pan-fish all over this great country. The Ugly Stik is a winner!

ugly stiks are great i am looking for an inexpensive rod that can take a beating. there are times when i just don’t feel good about taking my st croix. seeing as i broke it once already. the sound of that rod exploding brought tears to my eyes.i owned an ugly stik in the past i had gotten it from a garage sale when i was a kid for 10 bucks. that rod was then given to a family member about a year ago who didn’t have a fishing pole. that rod is about 25 years old and still looks and works great!

I agree with all. Since I started fishing regularly my ugly stick was the first rod I bought. I have had many rods since then and my ugly stick is the only rod that is still in almost perfect condition despite being used the most and accompanying me on every fishing trip I have ever been on. Not to mention it feels the best when hooking into a nice fish.

I got my first one when I was 16 with a Quantum SX3 Snapshot. I still have them both more then 10 years later, although the reel is a little beatup.

I owna Berkely Power Pole and my buddy has an Ugly Stik. Both are extremely durable, although they do need to be worked in a bit to avoid breakage. My buddy was trying to sell me on the Ugly Stik and was showing me how flexible they were in Canadian Tire when it snapped like a twig(of course he went for broke on his first try)

Over all they are a strong durable rod but its something I would hand to a rookie who isn’t going to be so delicate.

They don’t have the response some rods have but I will say they never break so bottom line is it’s nice to keep one close for when the man rod’s days run out.

When your going after monsters and you don’t know how big they will get a ugly comes in handy.

I think Clive breaks a lot of Rod’s, that’s why he loves his Ugly Stik’s!…Seriously though, they are the best value for money you could ever want in a Rod, my favourite in the Heavy duty Rod’s are the Tiger and the Catfish.

Rapala Husky Jerk

"The very next day I stuck gold and hooked into a nice little muskie. He couldn't believe it, but I knew there had to be bigger ones. The next time we visited the lake we came better prepared with bigger reels, heavier line, and bigger lures. It wasn't long before I had another beautiful muskie, this time caught on a Rapala Suspending Husky Jerk, a lure that despite its small size, has caught me several big fish. Jon also landed his first muskie on that trip, an incredible 47 inch giant that was fooled into attacking an Original Floating Rapala."

The Return To Mystery Lake

It’s been over 5 years since we last visited Mystery Lake and just as long since we’ve fished with our good friend Mike Westlake. Mike would definitely be considered a founding member of Fishing Fury, in our first year he joined us on many of our trips and witnessed us catch trophy fish in every [...]
