File this one under “ashamed I didn’t think of it”- or maybe just file it under “ashamed”, heh. I’ll be honest, I love infomercials. Being a child that grew up with some severe insomnia I would often sneak out of my room and watch tv in the middle of the night and sure enough infomercials were the #1 thing on TV at 4am. I don’t just like infomercials, I’m a connoisseur!
A good infomercial can make you laugh, but only a great infomercial can make you laugh and hide your face in disgust at the very same time. This, my friends, is a great infomercial.
The invasive asian carp are causing massive destruction across the midwest, and Illinois (my home state) seems to be one of the most affected. I have a few more related posts that I’ll try and have up later today/tomorrow about how even the US Army has been called in to help prevent the asian carp from making it in to the great lakes.
While this invasive species is no laughing matter, this video is quite hilarious.
Think that was cool? Check out the Redneck Fishing Tournament where guys are taking an active part in capturing this invasive species and removing it from their local waters.
The perfect end to the work week. A redneck fishing tournament is probably the only tournament where drinking, mudslinging, and sinking your boat are all part of the fun!
We came, we saw, we fished, we partied, we swam, we sank, we saved the boat, and though the fun guys did not win the tournament competition, we were victorious in the trials and tribulations that come with trying to have too much fun on the river. This is just the tip of the iceberg, folks. Merely the tip. Stay tuned for the full episode soon. Thanks again to Dusty and Kenny for writing and performing the catchy fun guys song. Straight out of the “OH SH*T” department, we have this video of surfer Chuck Patterson on a stand-up paddle board who notices a few extra fins in the water and decides to put his underwater camera down to see what’s going on down there. Turns out it was two great white sharks deciding if he’d make a good dinner, luckily though he made it out without any injuries! Personally, I’d crap my pants and I’m not ashamed to say it.
the day before I shot this video, i was SUP surfing with a couple friends and 2 sharks circled us for about 15 minutes. the next day, i decided to go back out at around the same time and take my GO PRO HD HERO camera mounted on a 10 ft pole and do some exploring. Sure enough within 5 minutes a 9 ft shark came out of no where and circled twice and slapped his tail on my board before disappearing. then a minute later a 7 ft young juvenile Great White swam circles around me for 12 minutes. It was an unreal experience that I will cherish forever. chuckpattersonsports.com
Another great video on a Go Pro Hero HD, I really want one of these badly!
My good friend Phil alerted me to this fantastic swordfish tattoo by artist Matt Adamson. It’s difficult to understand the placement of the tattoo from the photos below but it looks to me like the tops of the shoulders, as if the swordfish has gone through the neck. Matt is [...]
This exotic fish may be native to southeast asia, but would you believe there’s one place in the United States where you can catch one right along side a largemouth bass. While they’re most commonly found here in aquariums many misinformed owners don’t realize they can grow up to 40″ [...]
The fishing season is off to a fantastic start this year! Last weekend marked the opening of trout season here in Ontario and though I was only able to get out yesterday, my friends and I still managed to have a fantastic day on the river. We woke up early [...]
We haven’t done a caption contest in a while, mostly because it takes a very special picture or video to inspire us. Today we have a video so wild we couldn’t even describe it! Hopefully you’ll have better luck though. The best description of this video left in the comments [...]

My XTRATUF II boots have been the footwear of choice for winter fishing this year and they’ve been fantastic on every outing. I’m sad that they’ll be put away in the next few weeks as summer approaches, but I’m very happy knowing they’re ready and waiting for next winter. When [...]
