Extreme Kayak Fishing!!

It takes a certain level of bravery to fish from a kayak 10km (6.2 miles) from shore, but it takes an absolute crazy man to catch a 10 foot shark while kayak fishing 10km from shore!

At least it wasn’t a great white!

He can’t be totally crazy because he just cut that line instead of getting his hands near and de-hooking it properly, would the Shark get rid of it over time on it’s own?

The common practice with sharks is to cut the line, those teeth can easily remove a finger (or hand!). Personally I would be carrying some large bolt cutters to do the job!

The common perception is that the hooks with find their own way out or they will rust out over time, but I’ve seen and caught sharks that already had a hook in em.

I also admit that would be SUPER fun (and crazy) but most likely that shark died. Sharks build up alot of lactic acid in their bloodstream and when being caught and after the 3 hours of fighting like that it would be exhausted and wouldn’t be able to get its muscle moving again. The way that shark looked when it released it looked to me like it probably just sank into the abyss and its death.

Theoretically those hooks should rust but it would take many many years. It does help that its salt water due to all the metals, ions, etc.

Yeah, I gotta agree, the shark didn’t look terribly healthy in the end. I think in a situation like that, where getting a good photo is not an option, the line should have been cut (or hook removed) at the earliest possible moment.

I’ve caught and released quite a few big sharks after extended battles, and they generally do quite well. We have re-caught big ones that we had previously tagged and released.
