An absolutely massive invasive snakehead has been pulled from the Potomac River by Juan Duran, and he may very well have set a world record! The current record stands at 17.4 pounds, caught in Japan, but Juan’s fish is four feet long, over 18 pounds, and caught in Virginia!
“I think they’re cool looking…I love the way they fight.. And you can catch them with a bass lure,” Duran said. “When you’re fighting a fish that big,… concentrate on that one fish – pretty awesome feeling.”
Duran’s pictures and scale are on their way to the IGFA for certification as a world record.

That is one catch I’m VERY GLAD to see a KILL. They are fighters and super aggressive… and INVASIVE. For all these reasons, each and every snakehead fish caught should be an INSTANT KILL.
With the rapacious diet of these fish, one can only imagine how many native fish (bass, walleye, perch, drum, and food fish galore … list of native freshwater fishes of the Potomac – http://www.potomacriver.org/2012/masterfishlist.pdf ) .
Big fish sure, but Good Riddance !!!
Be Gone Snakeheads!
It was surprising how many people in the video said they would just throw it back and didn’t seem to know they were invasive.
What a beast!
Thats a great fish , as he said , it’s verry agressive.Nice catch aniway.Verry nice!
Wow that’s a huge snakehead! I’ve caught them down in Florida but they are usually in the 2-5 lb range. Wish Silver and Bull head carp were as easy to catch on rod and reel!
