Amphibian Truck, For Those Hard To Fish Places

Designed around a Chevy Trailblazer, this green machine can transform from a land love to a sea monster in 18 seconds. On land the truck travels on two one-foot-wide rubber treads and on water the big Chevy engine engine drives an outboard propeller. The best part - this beast can reach 30 MPH!

Designed by 77-year-old Stan Hewitt, the 260-horsepower craft weighs more than 5,000 pounds. Photos by John B. Carnett

Argungu Fishing Festival In Nigeria

In Nigeria, fishing is taken very seriously. Thousands participate in the annual Angunga Fishing Festival which has taken place since 1934. The 2008 winner was stripped of his title and thrown in jail after officials learned that he cheated by using a fish he had caught prior to the festival.

On the final day of the festival, a competition is held in which thousands of men and women line up along the river and at the sound of a gun shot, all of them jump into the river and have an hour to catch the largest fish. The winner can take home as much as 7,500 US dollars. Competitors are only allowed to use traditional fishing tools and many prefer to catch fish entirely by hand (a practice also popular elsewhere and known as “noodling” ) to demonstrate their prowess.

Re: Chasing Barracuda - Anegada, British Virgin Islands

Hey Peter, Spoons will catch you several varieties of fish including two of my favorite, barracuda and jacks. If you plan to fish for tarpon the best bet is using live bait and fishing at night. Tarpon can be found though out the Virgin Islands by day and night and you should be able to find them as long as you have good eyesight! (look for schools of baitfish and pelicans) Anegada probably holds some the best fishing in the BVI with a wide variety of species, including world class bone fishing.
