Glacier Surfing!
I cant decided yet if this is the cooled or stupidest thing I have ever seen. I’m leaning toward the latter though.
Its almost as dumb as dynamite surfing, but thankfully the Mythbusters have busted that one.

About a week ago I spent a week in Maui, one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever had the enjoyment of visiting. Unfortunately I did not have any time for fishing, I spent the majority of my time surfing, I did manage to visit the Maui Ocean Center in my spare time and last night put together this video.
The audio track is Ka’au Crater Boys - I Hear Music. You’re also free to download a high quality copy of this video (Xvid - 50MB) hosted here on Fishing Fury.

It’s very disapointing to learn about something, especially when its dangerously fun, just as it’s just being banned. Apparently those crazy Aussies use surfboards to swim salmon baits, some weighing more than 200 grams, out to schools of juvenile Great White Sharks, then reel them in from a chair mounted on the back of a 4WD vehicle.
“I found it quite extraordinary what these individuals were doing, very dangerous to themselves and very dangerous to beachgoers in the area,” he said.
“Great white sharks are highly territorial and attracting them to that area is a danger not only to people doing the practice, but also other members of the community.”
The Minister has a point though, the last thing you want to do is enforce the idea that surfboards equal food to Great White Sharks.
UPDATE:An Australian marine biologist says that 4WD shark fishing highlight an unusual concentration of great whites in the region and could actually trigger new research into juvenile great whites in the area, hopefully opening new avenues of scientific research.
“It raises all sorts of questions as to whether those sharks are there regularly on a seasonal basis,” he said.
“Is it an unusual occurrence with large schools of australian salmon concentrating on these sharks, or are they there every year?
“And it just happens to be that this particular method of fishing has been successful in catching a number of these sharks that would’ve gone unnoticed otherwise.”
Megan Halavais, 20, was attacked by a shark while paddling into the water off Salmon Creek Beach in Sonoma Counry in Northern California. Megan, an experienced surfer, was attacked from behind and escaped the jaws of a 16-foot shark after she hit the shark on its tail
“It was weird. I was sitting out there thinking, ‘Wow, this feels shark-y to me,’” Megan Halavais, 20, said Thursday. “It was straight out of ‘Jaws.’”
“A 16-foot shark is a big shark. It’s not just 16 feet in length. It’s big. I couldn’t fit my arms around its tail. Its fin, its main dorsal fin, was like taller than me,” Halavais recounted for reporters at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital as she sat in a wheelchair, her bandaged leg extended in front of her.
The attacked happened on Wednesday and by Thursday Megan was already in good spirits, with a shark bite that streched from her thigh to her calf. She is listed in good condition. Police believe the shark was probably a great white, possibly the same shark in one or more attacks in recent years, the beach is now closed and surfers in nearby locations have been warned.
Wow, I thought that shark caught in New Zealand was big & now I hear about a girl who escapes being eaten by an even bigger one.

Re: Chasing Barracuda - Anegada, British Virgin Islands
Clive (29 months ago)Hey Peter, Spoons will catch you several varieties of fish including two of my favorite, barracuda and jacks. If you plan to fish for tarpon the best bet is using live bait and fishing at night. Tarpon can be found though out the Virgin Islands by day and night and you should be able to find them as long as you have good eyesight! (look for schools of baitfish and pelicans) Anegada probably holds some the best fishing in the BVI with a wide variety of species, including world class bone fishing. If you plan to fish from a boat you are [...]
