So you may remember the recent rod repair I performed on a Pete Mania Musky Rod from Bass Pro Shops. Well about a week before leaving for Little Vermilion, I was at a friends house watching TV (I don’t own a TV) and I saw a musky guide put his hook through what looked like a hole in the trigger. At that point I understood what the hole was for, but still given all the rods on display with broken triggers and how much my rods got beaten around in the car and on the boat I was glad I filled it. I knew there had to be a better way to do this, without sacrificing any performance.
Sure enough, while packing my things for the trip it came to me. A hook ring that thats customizable in both strength, size, and thickness, as well as cheap, replaceable, and has no performance drawbacks. Don’t lose site now, this isn’t an infomercial, and I won’t be selling you anything.

All you need are two zip ties! You’ll also want to make sure you can still remove the reel from it’s seat while the zip ties are on, depending on your configuration, smaller or thinner zip ties maybe in order. While your at it toss a few in your tackle box for later.
So maybe instead of a person or machine in a factory drilling holes in your perfectly molded and crafted trigger, that will likely break because of it, just toss in a couple zip ties.
Thanks to the mysterious anglingarcher for pointing out the mix-up in my original post, and mostly for reminding me to get this posted. I still have a lot of back logs to go through, as well as a pile of real work to do, more interesting updates are on their way!
During the first week of November, Brecks (Williams, Mooselook, Mister Twister, Exude, Mepps and Maxima) had products featured on Discovery Channel’s hit show How It’s Made. If you missed out on it, keep an eye out for the repeat.
It is no secret that Mepps is my favorite and most productive type of lure. Each year I look forward to seeng what new lures they will offer. This year there are just a few additions to the Mepps lineup.
Aglia Brown Trout This popular pattern is a subtle combination of natural colors on a gold back blade. Previously limited to straight gold for a subtle presentation, the Brown trout pattern now offers a second gold option and is most definitely not just for browns.
S0 and S00 These new smaller members of the Syclops family are ideal for open water as well as ice fishing. Including two glow in the dark patterns. The 1/4oz & 1/8 oz versions are perfect for stream trout, fly rod trolling, hard water jigging, panfish and many more.
4-K1D and 4-K2D The popular dressed version of the classic Trouter and Basser kits are back in a 4 pack assortment of proven lures for each species.
Unfortunatly, I found this one a few hours late, and you can no longer submit questions to Roland Martin. But, here are some of my favorite questions and answers.
Jody, Charleston, West Virginia: You mentioned the current crop of tough, young competitors as at least part of your decision to retire. Does that–knowing that the wins will get more difficult to come by–make your decision easier or more difficult?
Roland: (1:05 PM ET ) The only difficult part about quitting was coming to terms with the fact that I didn’t win the Classic. It was the one feather in my cap I didn’t get. I would have retired soon as I won it, had I done so. I actually should have retired 10 years ago. I had promotions, TV and everything else going on. But I’m not regretting fishing the last ten years. I just probably should not have done it.
Steve, Annapolis, Maryland: Back in 1980 when you won the three in a row you said in a Bassmaster interview that you’d fish for another 5 or 10 years. And that you wouldn’t be able to keep up with the “younger” guys. You went on to do even more great achievements in your career. What kept you going, as in your competitive drive?
Roland: (1:11 PM ET ) I never really considered my tournament fishing my main job in life. I always considered tournament fishng as a springboard to bigger and better things. I always thought that if you could create noterieity then it would be a sprngboard to greater things, like TV. So that’s how I approached it all.
Roland: (1:12 PM ET ) Now with this new tour you’re going to have to have a guy who will do nothing but fish the Tour. And I just can’t go there, because I am too devoted to my TV work and promotiong my sponsors.
Bill, Dallas, Texas: Do you think anyone else will ever claim nine AOY titles?
Roland: (1:18 PM ET ) I would have thought that it would have been possible and specifically with Kevin VanDam. But the competition is getting so tough, that even though Kevin is the world’s best angler now, it’s going to be tough. He might run out of time. But he will get close.
Christian, Lebanon, Tennessee: What is your most memorable fishing experience?
Roland: (1:27 PM ET ) I would have to go back to those three years on Santee Cooper in the mid-1960s where I learned the ABCs of bass fishing. And where I discovered what became the foundation of pattern fishing. Back then I was captivated cy catching 10 pounders. I would guarantee a client, when I was guiding, that I would get them where they could catch an 8 pounder or they didn’t have to pay me. I was just totally obsessed with catching monster bass.
Roland: (1:29 PM ET ) As an afterthought … I’d just like to say these steps we’ve had in our careers, me and everybody else in this business, have their origin in the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society. As in BASS. It was BASS that helped us all get there. We’ve all deviated from that some, it’s business. But it was essential, BASS was then and now.
Personally I was interested in hurdles he faced when he starting filming Fishing with Roland Martin, what hurdles he faces now that he films 23 shows a season, and how much say he has in where he fishes and the tone/editing of his episodes.

Clive Mathias (1 day, 4 hours ago)I'm not 100% sure, but I think they get a little darker as they age. The biggest I've caught was about 14 inches long and still had these colours.

Re: Season Closer
Woody (1 day, 14 hours ago)Do these colours stay with the fish or as it gets bigger and older it fades or morphs into something else?
Re: Sailfish Nursery
Woody (2 days, 9 hours ago)Your lakes must have high salinity content if they can hold fish like that in Bill...I know what you mean by the aquarium thing though, would be nice
