Shark Week, as you probably know, is one of our favourite times of year. It’s like early Christmas for us! For the last 24 years the Discovery Channel has sacrificed their entire weekly programming schedule to feed the sharks and our curiosity for these fascinating beasts. Streamed to over 70 countries around the world there is no doubt that Shark Week is a complete success. This compelling subject has attracted several celebrities to host Shark Week, including the MythBusters, Mike Rowe, Les Stroud, and most recently Andy Sandberg. With 23 seasons done, and many more to come, Shark week is the longest running cable program ever.

Shark Week has done a great job of spreading bona-fide information about Sharks to the general populace, dispelling mythology and folklore alike. Knowing more about sharks makes you respect them a lot more, and the more you respect them the more you know they’re an important part of the ecosystem and how horrific and disgusting shark finning is.

Shark week is a “must watch” in the fury household, and if we’re going to watch our favorite show you can bet that we’ll be watching on a crystal clear high-definition provider like Direct TV.

The last season of Shark Week, aptly named Relentless Fury is now available on DVD and the 20th anniversary collection is 4 discs of the most amazing footage of sharks you’ve ever seen. Both make an excellent Christmas gift to the shark lover in your family.

But on friday night you’re gonna want to sit down for an absolutely stacked fishing line-up on Outdoor Channel!

Wanna Go Fishing? – Debuts Friday, April 1st at 9:00 p.m. ET

Host Matt Eastman picks a random individual to join him on an all-expense paid fishing trip of a lifetime. While the jets and boats are standing by, the potential guest has five minutes and two phone calls to decide if he or she has “got the guts to go.” “Wanna Go Fishing?” travels to the best fishing locations on the planet, and the journey often becomes a life changing experience for one lucky guest. “Wanna Go Fishing?” is a two-time Emmy Award winner for Best Sports Series and Best On-Camera Talent.

The Bassmasters – Debuts Friday, April 1st at 10:30 p.m. ET

“The Bassmasters,” hosted by Tommy Sanders and Mark Zona of Outdoor Channel’s “Zona’s Awesome Fishing Show,” serve fishing fanatics with the most comprehensive how-to and where-to information about ways in which Bassmaster Elite Series pros tackle a body of water. The shows provide in-depth analysis on lure choice, fish management, the mental approach to fishing and countless other variables that affect the competition. The series has received critical acclaim, as the production of the “Bassmaster Classic” earned a 2008 Sports Emmy nomination for Outstanding Live Event Turnaround category.

Ultimate Match Fishing: All-Stars – Debuts Friday, April 1st at 11:30 p.m. ET

“Ultimate Match Fishing: All-Stars” takes twelve of the biggest names in professional angling and puts them toe-to-toe in the infamous Ultimate Match Fishing competition format. In this special edition of the classic series, all of the competitors are either returning UMF champions, fan favorites from previous seasons, or first-time UMF competitors who are considered “legends” in the world of bass fishing. Outdoor Channel mainstay Joe Thomas serves as host alongside Claude “Fish” Fishburne — former ESPN “Bassmaster Classic” host and current Outdoor Channel “The Fish Fishburne Show” host. As in the original UMF series, the anglers compete for a grand prize of $50,000.

And saturday morning you’ll be able to wake up to the Madfin Shark Series!

Madfin Shark Series – Debuts Saturday, April 2nd at 11:30 a.m. ET

The 5th annual “Madfin Shark Series” returns as the only nationally televised catch and release shark competition in the world. For its Outdoor Channel debut, the show follows four two-person teams as they brave the warm waters of the Florida Keys to search for dangerous sharks only to measure and release them over the course of three days. British actor Butler Yates returns as the dramatic voiceover, and outdoor star Tommy Sanders makes his first appearance on camera as the host. Breathtaking underwater and aerial coverage set the bar for the up close and personal experience for this winner-take-all affair.

TEMECULA, Calif., and CELEBRATION, Fla. – March 10, 2011 – Outdoor Channel, America’s Leader in Outdoor TV, and B.A.S.S., the authority on bass fishing, today announced that the two companies have entered into an agreement that brings “The Bassmasters,” one of the highest-rated outdoor programs on television, to Outdoor Channel. The popular show highlighting the Bassmaster Classic and Bassmaster Elite Series tournaments will debut on Outdoor Channel beginning March 28, 2011. The addition of this successful Bassmaster series follows Outdoor Channel’s recent acquisition of other top fishing shows, such as “Buccaneers and Bones,” “The Madfin Shark Series,” “Spanish Fly,” “Zona’s Awesome Fishing Show,” “The Fish Fishburne Show,” “The Salt Water Series” and “Fishing University.”

Under the terms of the deal, Outdoor Channel will air 26 weeks of programming including the 2011 “Bassmaster Classic” and “Bassmaster Elite Series” as well as several of the top episodes from 2010. The series will appear on Outdoor Channel as part of its 2011 second-quarter and third-quarter programming lineup. The Bassmaster series will join Outdoor Channel’s prime time programming schedule as well as its highly popular Yamaha Friday Night Fishing block. The hour-long Bassmaster episodes will appear on Outdoor Channel approximately 30 days after their original air dates on ESPN2 and its affiliated networks.

“We are excited to embark on this new partnership with B.A.S.S. as we continue to expand our fishing content with top-quality proven programming. These high-caliber Bassmaster TV series further strengthen and broaden Outdoor Channel’s angling appeal, providing us with leading fishing programs that immediately resonate with our viewers,” said Roger Werner, president & CEO at Outdoor Channel. “This agreement with B.A.S.S. reflects our ongoing commitment to providing our 35 million viewers with the best in outdoor programming.”

“Our goal has always been to have Bassmaster TV programs distributed as widely as possible to allow anglers across the country access to our leading fishing series. Our new partnership with Outdoor Channel significantly increases our reach, and enables fishing fans to watch “The Bassmasters” during weekend prime time slots along with other popular fishing shows,” said Jerry McKinnis, a pioneer in outdoor television production and one of three new owners of B.A.S.S. “We’re excited to join Outdoor Channel and be part of its roster that includes the industry’s leading outdoor celebrities.”

The Bassmaster programs, hosted by Tommy Sanders and Mark Zona of Outdoor Channel’s “Zona’s Awesome Fishing Show,” serve fishing fanatics with the most comprehensive how-to and where-to information about ways in which Elite Series pros tackle a body of water.

This video is just a small part of their Great Rod Race series where they try to catch every species of freshwater fish in the UK. I highly recommend the series, even if you live outside the UK. If I weren’t such a law abiding citizen, I’d tell you where to download it, but even if you aren’t a downloader, its definitely worth the purchase.
