E-mail Of The Week

Things are pretty busy at Fishing Fury headquarters. We get a lot of email and we make it a point to reply to each and every one of them. Its really not as hard is it sounds though. There was only one email this week that wasn’t spam. Luckily it was a good email, complete with great pike photographs, so I figure I should post it.

    Gentlemen,

You have put Ken Reece on your website and our group of fishing friends can no longer tolerate his bragging….it is utterly painful. I beg of you to end this pain and put some of our quality catches on your site as well. While Ken Reece is a respectable fisherman, let me say this….
“If Ken Reece is a pike fisherman extraordinaire, the guys you will see in the attached photos could have reached Pike Fishing Immortality”.

…there is but one lure to rule them all.

    Joshua Sapp
    Toledo, Oh

PIKE!!

Nice size pikeLong pike!Huge pike!

Thanks for the email Josh, now its time to sit back and see what Mr. Reece has to say!

Everyone Knows Canadian Pike Fishing Is The Best

One of our readers sent in a load of pike photos one he saw our new gallery. Ken is a seasoned piker fisherman who has made a couple of fishing trips to Canada in search of monster pike. He be heading to our favorite lake (Little Vermilion) this June and were hoping to see some photos of a 50 incher when he returns!

Here are some pictures from a couple of our Canada trips. We are heading up to Sportsman Lodge last week of June, I posted earlier asking if you guys where making it back there this year. These pictures are a mix from Showalters Fly In and LukintoLake Lodge. Hopefully we’ll be sending you some big ones from our Sportman’s Lodge trip. Hope we can hook up with you guys sometime there. Any questions or just want to BS, there are about 4 of us that are fishing idiots from Toledo, Ohio here that have a lot of the same interests as you guys. Have a great year and hope to hear from you soon and keep up the good work on a great website.

    Ken Reece

I wish we could join you up there Ken,but we cant afford the trip this year - but if we are ever in Ohio we’ll look you up!

Kesagami Legends

We at Fishing Fury don’t have anything against ice fishing, we just don’t care much for the cold. If I was going to go ice fishing though, I’d definitely want to fish for pike. If I could pick just one lake to ice fish, it would have to Kesagami in Ontario (Unless of course they start offering ice fishing trips at Little Vermilion). Why Kesagami? Just take a look at these monster pike…

Better Late Than Never

Occasionally I submit photos to various sites from our fishing adventures. Sometimes these sites offer monthly or quarterly prizes, but I never win. At least I thought I had never won. Recently I logged into my old account at one of my favorite fishing sites, Tackle Tour, and to my surprize I had a message in my inbox from 2005 saying that I had won their quarterly contest. It’s probably too late to claim a prize, I’m guessing they simply gave the prize to somebody else but I’m currently waiting for a response from them to find out for sure!

Here’s the photo of the winning fish!

Little Vermilion Pike Meet Clive’s Custom Spinnerbaits

If you haven’t read our Little Vermilion Lake 2007 fishing logs, prepare to get pumped up in preparation for reading it! Most of you know by now that Clive has been building his own custom in-line spinnerbaits, not to mention fishing with them almost non-stop, and there is a good reason for that. His lures have been catching fish everywhere he goes, bass, muskie, even a few pike at Toronto Islands.

It is undoubtedly even more exciting to catch a trophy pike on a lure you only built the night before, but the idea of having the ability to build a lure on-the-spot for the conditions your currently fishing is unheard of. Not to mention that when one of the pike at Little Vermilion Lake was hooked very deep Clive simply cut his lure in half and rebuilt it in less than 5 minutes right on the water. I was very impressed.

Without further delay, may I present to you our first of many videos from Little Vermilion Lake. In this video Clive shows off a few of the many fish he caught on his custom lures, none of the fish shown were caught on anything else, and how he rebuilt his lure after having to cut it in half so he didn’t injure the pike needlessly. I think this could very well be the longest video we’ve done so far, and I think it goes without saying that we couldn’t put together a video without at least one of those trophy northerns from Little Vermilion Lake.

I should also point out that Clive gave this lure away to an OFN’er we met on the dock as we were just leaving Little Vermilion. I hope the lure did just as well for him, and I really hope to see some photos and hear his thoughts. So if you’re that guy please contact us!

Of course not everyone has the time to build their lures, or the money for the initial sets of hardware. Still, I’m sure you’d like to get your hands on one of these trophy producing lures and maybe you can. If you’re seriously interested in these lures leave a comment here or email Clive and let him know. I’m sure we’ll see an article all about building custom lures from Clive, and maybe even a price list of some sort in the near future.

Finally, for those of you who would rather see that video again in full resolution (and with better audio) you can download it from our site.

I’m sure that everyone has been patiently awaiting the second half of our report from Sportsmans Lodge on Little Vermilion Lake, but you aren’t going to get it today… Instead, we’ve rewritten the entire thing, added some more of our story, more photos, and fixed some of the photos that we posted were for the wrong days (camera’s internal date was a day off). So with all those fixes, and more Little Vermilion content on it’s way, you are now free to read the entire Little Vermilion Lake 2007 Fishing Fury report.

Re: Season Closer

I'm not 100% sure, but I think they get a little darker as they age. The biggest I've caught was about 14 inches long and still had these colours.

Re: Season Closer

Do these colours stay with the fish or as it gets bigger and older it fades or morphs into something else?

Re: Sailfish Nursery

Your lakes must have high salinity content if they can hold fish like that in Bill...I know what you mean by the aquarium thing though, would be nice
