One of the biggest problems with shore fishing is getting your bait or lure out to where the fish are. Often fish are just out of your casting distance. Thanks to Paul’s fishing kites you can get you bait out where the big fish are. Paul has created several styles of kites for a variety of fishing needs.
These unique fishing kites will even allow you to fish off cliffs and have access to fish that normally can only be targeted by boat. The only limit to how far you can fish with these kites is determined by how long you fishing line is. Incredibly enough any time of fish can be caught including sailfish, tuna and sharks.
“The Target Snapper Hooks from Paul’s Fishing Kites are the only selective and anti gut hooking fish hook available in the world. Not only do they prevent fish from swallowing the hook, they also halve your catch of undersized fish and increase your catch of legal size fish.”
This looks like a fun way to fish!

Our first year together as Fishing Fury we fished mostly out of a 15′ flat back canoe with a 2HP motor. There was something about catching big fish from a little boat, even a big bass could pull us around a bit and muskies could tow us out of bays. We were far more maneuverable than traditional boats, we could get in tight places other boats couldn’t even cast to and find monster bass hiding in the thickest cover. And we always stood up to fish. Two people standing up in a 15′ canoe can be dangerous, but we were pro’s, we could “surf” through other boats wakes while standing and even when Clive hit me in the back of the head with a Mepps Musky Killer, we never fell in. This year with Clive and I abroad, we gave the canoe back to its owner, Devon.
Thanks for letting us use your canoe Devon, without it Fishing Fury wouldn’t have been nearly as furious. Now it’s time for an upgrade, not the boat, the fish.
Kayak fishing has become extremely popular these days, with a few manufacturers making kayaks specificly designed for fishing. Kayak fishing is the culmination of big fish from a little boat, in the open ocean you have a good chance of catching a fish bigger than your kayak.

Just last month, on October 25th, Larry Laumanm from La Jolla, California caught the new kayak world record Yellowtail weighing in at 50.65 pounds and 53″ in length. Larry didn’t have to travel far, in fact he caught it in what you could consier his “backyard” fishing spot with his neighborhood off in the distance. La Jolla is actually a very popular kayak fishing area that even has kayak fishing charters and guide services. Jim Sammons, of La Jolla kayak fishing, is believed to be the second person to hook, fight, and land a marlin on a kayak.

Unfortunatly, I found this one a few hours late, and you can no longer submit questions to Roland Martin. But, here are some of my favorite questions and answers.
Jody, Charleston, West Virginia: You mentioned the current crop of tough, young competitors as at least part of your decision to retire. Does that–knowing that the wins will get more difficult to come by–make your decision easier or more difficult?
Roland: (1:05 PM ET ) The only difficult part about quitting was coming to terms with the fact that I didn’t win the Classic. It was the one feather in my cap I didn’t get. I would have retired soon as I won it, had I done so. I actually should have retired 10 years ago. I had promotions, TV and everything else going on. But I’m not regretting fishing the last ten years. I just probably should not have done it.
Steve, Annapolis, Maryland: Back in 1980 when you won the three in a row you said in a Bassmaster interview that you’d fish for another 5 or 10 years. And that you wouldn’t be able to keep up with the “younger” guys. You went on to do even more great achievements in your career. What kept you going, as in your competitive drive?
Roland: (1:11 PM ET ) I never really considered my tournament fishing my main job in life. I always considered tournament fishng as a springboard to bigger and better things. I always thought that if you could create noterieity then it would be a sprngboard to greater things, like TV. So that’s how I approached it all.
Roland: (1:12 PM ET ) Now with this new tour you’re going to have to have a guy who will do nothing but fish the Tour. And I just can’t go there, because I am too devoted to my TV work and promotiong my sponsors.
Bill, Dallas, Texas: Do you think anyone else will ever claim nine AOY titles?
Roland: (1:18 PM ET ) I would have thought that it would have been possible and specifically with Kevin VanDam. But the competition is getting so tough, that even though Kevin is the world’s best angler now, it’s going to be tough. He might run out of time. But he will get close.
Christian, Lebanon, Tennessee: What is your most memorable fishing experience?
Roland: (1:27 PM ET ) I would have to go back to those three years on Santee Cooper in the mid-1960s where I learned the ABCs of bass fishing. And where I discovered what became the foundation of pattern fishing. Back then I was captivated cy catching 10 pounders. I would guarantee a client, when I was guiding, that I would get them where they could catch an 8 pounder or they didn’t have to pay me. I was just totally obsessed with catching monster bass.
Roland: (1:29 PM ET ) As an afterthought … I’d just like to say these steps we’ve had in our careers, me and everybody else in this business, have their origin in the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society. As in BASS. It was BASS that helped us all get there. We’ve all deviated from that some, it’s business. But it was essential, BASS was then and now.
Personally I was interested in hurdles he faced when he starting filming Fishing with Roland Martin, what hurdles he faces now that he films 23 shows a season, and how much say he has in where he fishes and the tone/editing of his episodes.
The Salton Sea is in trouble, once a hot spot for spotting movie stars, expensive yachts and sailboats, it’s now turning in to a stinky salty mass. Scientists are hoping to prevent the phosphorus and silt from spreading in to the desert lake. Their solution is to add 6,000 tons of two chemicals harmless to wildlife. Hopefully that will stop the death of fish and rotten-egg smell that might just knock you out of your boat or kayak. Scientists say that treatments could make the sea up to 90% cleaner than it is right now. For decades thousands of dead fish and birds have been cleaned from the shores, 640 dead birds were collected in a single day. It’s clear that something needs to happen, but the cost of cleaning it could cost upwards of $19 million dollars a year.
Fishing the Salton Sea is more popular than you might think, even with that wonderful odor. The Sea has tilapia, gulf croaker, corvina, and sargo. ESPN Outdoors says that the Salton Sea is like fishing an inland ocean thats cleaner than most of California’s bays.
I’ve been enjoying all the videos at MetaCafe today. The kid videos are hilarious, but I’m more of a dangerous, kill yourself in the process, kind of person. For example: Unicycle Accident, The Urban Ninja, and The amazing brothers.
Speaking of Unicycling (sorry but I’m really sold on it being the next big extreme sport), I found another mind blowing unicycle video at SYKO Productions called Universe 2. Also, check out the video collection at Unicycle UK, which includes the awesome Defect trailer (quicktime)!
Of course there’s always the fishing videos at Angling Edge, if you’re not amused by watching people do things that could potentially paralyze them.
