Fish Mailboxes

I really liked mailboxes for some reason. Probably because I’ve always lived in an apartment or townhouse and never had one. I’ve always said, If I ever get a house with a mailbox, I want it to be completely original so no one else nearby has the same one. Well these are about as original as they get!

Scugog Fishing August 22, 2008

Is it just me, or are the Scugog musky getting bigger this year? Curt sent us in some photos from a recent trip to Lake Scugog and it looks like they had an incredible day. Any day with multiple musky is OK in my books!

Thought you might enjoy these pics. All mine (red shirt) were caught on the same spinner bait. Mike’s musky was 50′ and about 25 lbs. - Curt

Awesome job Curt, keep sending those photos our way!

Inspirational Fisherman

Clay Dyer is one hell of a fisherman. Incredibly, he is one hell of a fisherman despite being born on without any lower limbs, no arm on the left side and a partial arm on the right. I think it’s pretty safe to say that this mans love and dedication to the sport is unmatched.

Family Fishing

I strongly believe that it is very important to introduce children to the outdoors at a young age. As a child, I was very lucky to grow up near lakes, rivers and forests and learned to respect nature at a young age. A lot of kids today, especially ones in big cities are never taught to appreciate nature and I find that very sad.

I’m always delighted when people send in photos of fishing trips with their kids. Adam send in these photos of himself and his son fishing back in July. I cant wait till my son is old enough to explore new lakes with me!

Huge Ontario Bass

Our friend Bill sent us this photo of a massive bass his girlfriend caught recently. It’s not only the biggest bass shes ever caught, but it even bigger then his biggest bass!

What makes this bass even more impressive is that it was caught within a couple hours of downtown Toronto!

Martin Reels In First Place On Sturgeon

Our good friend Martin wrote in yesterday to let us know how his York Bassmasters tournament on Sturgeon Lake went, and much to our surprise given the crazy weather we continue to have here. Martin pulled out a huge win, and some huge bass!

I was privileged enough to draw 2 time angler of the year Don Mahar of York Bassmasters. We started the day heading out to a well known rocky shoal on Sturgeon, while most of the rest stuck to the river leading out to Sturgeon from Lindsay. We landed our limit within the first 20 minutes, a nice hand full of smallies, but nothing large. We kept fishing those rock piles, landing and culling our catches still in search of a few big boys. Eventually, Don had a nice 2.5 lbs largemouth which meant we were in business. Soon after we headed across to the other side of the bay and Don comes up big with a 4 lbs smallie. We had a few more culls along that end and we had ourselves a pretty good bag for the day. There was heavy heavy rain all morning , we were absolutely soaked from the rain. On our way back to the weigh in , we made one last stop along the river, 2 casts in Don lands yet another big largemouth around 3.5 and we headed in for weigh in. We turned out to have 14 lbs and big fish at around 4lbs which gave us 1st place and big fish award.

Second place was 11.5 , with a 3.25 lbs largemouth.

Congratulations on the win Martin, those are beautiful bass.

Re: Season Closer

I'm not 100% sure, but I think they get a little darker as they age. The biggest I've caught was about 14 inches long and still had these colours.

Re: Season Closer

Do these colours stay with the fish or as it gets bigger and older it fades or morphs into something else?

Re: Sailfish Nursery

Your lakes must have high salinity content if they can hold fish like that in Bill...I know what you mean by the aquarium thing though, would be nice
