Well, it’s Monday again, and that means funny man Dave Mercer is back again with his weekly FYI special featuring fishing news, views and info you can’t use.
It isn’t very often that I come across a lure that looks so good I don’t even want to use it. The Rodent, by Bettencourt Baits is one such lure. Fishing lures simply do not get much more realistic then this. As soon as I took the 5 inch, 7/8 ounce Rodent out of the package, the high level of quality was apparent. The Rodent was clearly built by very skilled artisan.
I’ll be putting this beautiful lure to the test fishing for hungry spring pike in May. Stay tuned to find out how The Rodent stands up to the fierce jaws and sharp teeth of one of the most fearsome predators in freshwater!
For more information about the The Rodent, visit Bettencourt Baits.
Bassaholics is a lifestyle apparel company aimed directly at the heart of the new breed of anglers. Their designs are detailed, explosive, and unique. The feel similar in style to Affliction, but geared to the fishing fanatic. Their silkscreens look good and they’re printed on quality shirts. While I was there I picked up two of these belts, one for myself and one for Clive. Not only do they have a sweet lure belt buckle, but they’re also rulers up to 50″, and have a bottle opener on the back with a magnet so you dont loose the cap!

I met Ashley Rae of Team Shimano at the Toronto Sportsmen’s Show over the weekend. Ashley is an Ontario native that loves the sport of fishing. She is an avid angler, and has even been featured in Bass Man magazine.
This awesome video created by Ashley won her a trip to Tobago, the grand prize for the WFN Adopt an Angler contest. It’s clear that Ashley has both creative talents and a wonderful passion for the sport of fishing, well deserving of such an award. We’ll be keeping an eye on Ashley’s blog and youtube channel for updates and you should too!
Read more about Ashley on her blog She Loves To Fish.
Today at the Toronto Sportsmen’s Show I did some shopping and registered for a new fishing license. I found some pretty great deals all around, for example right now you can pick up a Quantum Cabo PT baitcaster for only 150 bucks! Unfortunately for me they’re all right handed. I highly recommend that you check out the show this weekend before all the best tax-free deals are gone. I did however spend some time culling the shops for the best swimbait deals. In the photo below you’ll find about 160 dollars or so worth of hot new swimbaits!
