Kype Magazine Volume 3, Issue 2

You may recall a few months ago when I told you about the newest issue of Kype Magazine. Well, for those of you that did not buy a copy of Kype Magazine the wait is now over. You can read the full length magazine via the widget below.

The Prototype Shimano Tranx

All you muskie fishermen out thee looking for you next reel, look no further! The one and only Dave Mercer gives us a sneak peek at the latest prototype reel from Shimano while targeting muskie, and it looks great! While the Shimano Curado 300 series handles muskie pretty well, the Shimano Tranx takes it to the next level! Check it out!

So what are the specs? How about a 6.6:1 gear ratio, 25lbs of drag, holds up to 210 yards of 80lb braid, has 7 ball bearings, 1 roller bearing and pulls in up to 43 inches of line with each crank! Apparently there will be two models of this reel, a high gear (HG) and a power gear (PG) – both models will be priced around $500 USD, which means we probably wont be buying one to test/review, but if the good folks at Shimano are listening, this reel just moved to the top of our wishlist! This reel should hit shelves in March 2012.

Monster 52 Pound Pike!

This incredible pike weighed in at 52 pounds (24kg) – just a few pounds shy of the world record pike! This is the kind of pike I dream about at night! I’ll post more details on this amazing catch as soon as I get them!

Ashley Rae And The One That Almost Got Away!

There are moments where blogs seem to write themselves in my mind while an experience is taking place. The sun shines a little brighter, the cool water swirls around my wading boots.. ducks taking off just downstream and flying feet overhead. It sounds to be straight from a book, but no – it’s fly fishing. This weekend was truly one of those times, and as I am writing this I am smiling while reliving it all over again.

My first ever brown trout caught yesterday here in Ontario, Canada. (Yes, mud on my nose! haha)

Brown trout are officially the most beautiful fish I’ve seen here in Canada. This one was spotted during a steelhead mission on a Lake Ontario tributary with my usual fly fishing partner, Mikey Fitzgerald. We made quite a trek down stream towards the big lake and began fishing when we spotted a couple trout.
