Michael and Margaret Snell, a retired British couple vacationing in B.C. have what could be the one of largest fish ever caught on a rod and reel in North America! The couple was on a guided fishing trip for sturgeon on the Fraser River in Chilliwack, where after a 90-minute battle they pulled in a sturgeon that was nearly four meters long and weighed about 500 kilograms (that’s over 1100 pounds)! “You’re there waiting for the rod to go and all of a sudden it plunges down then you strike, and it’s on,” Michael Snell said. “I got my wife, Margaret, to hang on to me. ‘Hang on to my belt,’ I said, ‘Because if it pulls, I want to stay in the boat.” The white sturgeon is the largest freshwater fish species in North American and can live up to 100 years or more. The fish was not tagged [...]

Heres something you don’t see everyday, nearly 1500 sturgeon, struggling in shallow water after the tide went out in Port Susan Bay, Washington. According to the Seattle News, biologists speculate that the sturgeon were feeding in shallow muddy water and failed to get back to deeper water before the tide went out. As you can tell by the below photos, many of the fish were huge, some reaching 10+ feet. “I think these were just fish that were poking around, looking for food,” said Brett Barkdull, a fish biologist with Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife who lives near the stranding area. “These fish have been out here for quite a while now, but I’ve personally never seen anything quite like this.” It is believed that most of the fish survived long enough for the tide to rise. “It looks like they chose to overextend their visit on the mud [...]

We at Fishing Fury have always been advocates of getting girls into fishing. For some strange reason, fishing has been seen as a mans sport, but anyone and everyone can (and should!) enjoy fishing. I stumbled across this great girls fishing site while reading SwittersB’s blog this morning. It’s always great to see girls catching big fish! via Rogue Angels
