Check Out Ontario’s Interactive Guide To Eating Fish

Ontario recently released an online Guide to eating sport fish outlining the safe limits of fish from hundreds of different lakes and rivers, and have now taken it one step further by integrating their data with Google Maps.

Fish can be an important part of a healthy diet, because they are high in quality protein and low in saturated fat, but in some cases care must be taken because of contaminant levels in the fish.

Anglers can use the guide to identify species and angling destinations with lower contaminant levels. The 2011-2012 edition includes advice for sport fish from more than 1,950 lakes, rivers and streams around the province.

As it turns out the northern pike in the Toronto Harbour and Toronto Islands are actually quite safe to eat, with a suggested limit of 8 meals per month.

Fishing Fury Wins A Tripbase Award

This one’s no April fools joke either, we’ve won for best fishing/angling blog! Tripbase is a great site for finding vacations when you just want to get away, it’s kind of like a good slot machine in that you giver a pull- and it will spin out great some results from all over the globe! Give it a shot, if not just to see what amazing destination you could go to if you left tomorrow. We’ve decided to display our award on the sidebar, so as you scroll down please applaude.

This awards category is for the best fishing blogs of 2011. To compile it, we scoured the Internet for the most passionate fishing and angling blogs out there which guide readers through the many types of fishing and angling vacation.

Whether you’re a newbie trying to work out how rod licences work or an accomplished fly fisherman looking for a helicopter tour of Russia’s salmon lakes, we’ve plucked only the best blogs from a very long list of possibilities.

All the blogs we encountered were brimming with enthusiasm – fishermen and anglers are devoted to their passion. We have had to select the blogs based on their ability to express this passion in a clear and educational way. We’ve given preference to blogs which provide photographs, even if they are just of men holding large fish. We’ve also given preference to the angling blogs which describe the sites and the surrounding area, ideally noting the nearby pubs and amenities available to fishermen.

Below is the final list of award winners. We hope that you’ll find them enlightening if you’re just starting out and edifying if you’ve got a few years experience under your belt. This is your first port of call on the way to angling heaven.

Video Hosting Services And Wiked Sunday Night Videos

I’ve been testing out quite a few video sharing services, but DV Guru has a great review of 10 free video sharing services. Though a few of the services they reviewed are still beta, but hey Google Video is still beta, right. While I don’t think that features such as online editing and remixing are very important right now, a good community behind a site that has them could be the next online boom for video.

However, the average person who just wants to get his or her video online for all to see is probably best going with one of the major two providers, Google Video and You Tube.

Just the other day I found a new video site thats nothing but fishing videos. Fish Fever is still in beta and it’s unclear if they will be allowing users to upload videos (Im still waiting on an email reply to find out). Either way check out the truly awesome collection of videos they’ve got.

Here are a few more sites with good fishing videos: Ontario Fishing Reels, Figure 8 Muskie Charters Canada, Real Fishing with Bob Izumi has videos and full copies of their magazines in PDF (registration required, but worth it), and last but not least Action Angler- Big Bass Rich has quite a few (pilot, ep1, ep2, ep3, ep4, ep5) great videos on Zippy Videos
