Technology Versus Experience

If you have ever wondered if the latest fishing technologies will make you a better fisherman, you are not alone. Fishermen spend thousands of dollars each year to be able to catch more fish and in the end is it really worth it? Current.com investigates by sending a first time fisherman, armed with the latest fishing gadgets, to face off against a seasoned bass fishing pro. Who will emerge victorious? Watch the video to find out!

The bottom line is this: if you want to catch more fish, don’t spend more money, fish more.

Out With The Old, In With The New!

Last week we mentioned that the beautiful Quantum Tour Edition PT was/is on sale for $110 off the regular price, and now we’re going to tell you why. Because its old and busted! The good folks at Tackle Tour have photos of the all new 2009 Tour Edition PT which will hit stores this fall. The new reel looks to be aimed toward the fishing enthusiast, boasting great detail and a carbon fiber handle (and no doubt a hefty price tag). It’s a sharp looking reel no doubt, but personally I prefer the colour of the old model. Have a look for yourself.

The old Quauntum Tour Edition PT

We’re big fans of Quantum reels here at Fishing Fury, and the 2009 line looks very promising. Hopefully we can get our hands on some of these quality reels to test out!

Reel Deal Of The Day

I keep an eye on prices of the rods and reels I want, just in case I win the lottery or find myself with a large sum of money for no apparent reason. Of course, these situations never arise, but it doesn’t keep me from dreaming. Jon picked up one of Quantum best reels, the Tour Edition PT baitcaster and I had the chance to try it out last year. It’s truly an amazing reel, but with a price tag of $240 it was well out of my price range. Key word there is was. Until June 25, the reel is on sale at Cabelas.com for $110 off the normal price. That means you can get a high quality low profile baitcaster loaded with great features for only $130. Click the image below to check it out on the Cabelas website.

If you arnt into spending money, you could head over to Quantum website and submit a photo for their trophy board and have the chance to win a free Quantum Energy E770PT “Burner” reel! Be warned though, you’ll be going up against my photos!

Nike Fly Fishing

Nike is probably the most recognizable companies in the world. They started with footwear, and have evolved in to something much bigger. As a kid a dreamed of having Nike shoes, but my parents never had the money to get me a pair. It wasn’t until I was 16 years old, with a job of my own, that I finally got myself a pair - and I loved them. When Nike started making hockey skates they were all the rage, I still dream of having a pair of those white Nike skates that Sergei Federov had. Most people would think that Nike entering the world of fishing is a bad idea, but personally I’d love to see it happen - even if their products are out of my price range.

What do you think, would you buy a Nike fishing reel?

Happy Fathers Day!

My first Fathers Day was a good one. I got to sleep in, eat bacon and best of all, I got a new fishing reel. Actually I got the reel a early since I was out of town in Augusta for a week. I put the reel to the test, fishing everyday for the past 6 days and so far I am very impressed. Any other fathers out there get some new fishing gear?

The Best Fishing Rod In The World

There are a lot of expensive high quality fishing rods out there, but nothing beats a $30 Ugly Stick.

You Can’t Put A Price On Quality

I was packing for my trip earlier today and went to put my 2 piece fishing rod into my luggage but there was one problem, it didn’t fit. I tried my shortest rod, and it didn’t fit either. Not cool. So I did what any fishing addict would do, I went shopping for a telescopic rod. Luckily I knew exactly where I could find on on the cheap, the local liquidation store. I walked out the proud owner of a $6.99 Fish Pal 6 foot telescopic rod.

I new even before I opened that package that this wasn’t going to be the highest quality rod, but I wasn’t prepared for the sheer cheapness that hid inside. I have no idea what the rod is made of, but its seems to be the constancy of charcoal. The reel barely turns, and is made entirely of low quality plastic, even the screws. Luckily, I’ll be using my own reels and hopefully the rod doesn’t melt when it gets wet.

I’ll be sure to review this incredible combo as soon as I return!

Pre-loaded with 6-10 pound line. Were not really sure if its 6 or 10, but it’s definitely not 11 pound line and its defiantly made in Taiwan.

Re: Chasing Barracuda - Anegada, British Virgin Islands

Hey Peter, Spoons will catch you several varieties of fish including two of my favorite, barracuda and jacks. If you plan to fish for tarpon the best bet is using live bait and fishing at night. Tarpon can be found though out the Virgin Islands by day and night and you should be able to find them as long as you have good eyesight! (look for schools of baitfish and pelicans) Anegada probably holds some the best fishing in the BVI with a wide variety of species, including world class bone fishing. If you plan to fish from a boat you are [...]
