The Fishing Butler embodies the “damn, I wish I thought of that” market. Simply put it’s an elastic band with a locking system that allows you to bind all kinds of things together, like two piece fishing rods, or even multiple fishing rods. The Fishing Butler’s lock-on and secure pretty much anything you put them on, they do the job they are designed to do, and they do it perfectly. The review is a little short and to the point, but so is the Fishing Butler.

That’s not all! To celebrate KokeMachine‘s first review on Fishing Fury, we’re also going to allow him to give away three free Fishing Butlers! This is a trivia contest, so the first thing you might want to do is brush up on your 4 Eel Fishing episodes like the one at the end of this post. It really helps if you read these in the KokeMachine voice.

Name the Toronto park where the Kokemachine was fishing in episode 2.

In episode 3 of 4 Eel fishing what is the name of the man who is referred to as a “possible man baby”?

In episode 5 of 4 eel fishing what creature did the Kokemachine and crew witness swimming across Red Cedar lake?

You can only win one prize per person, so please don’t try to answer all three.

When I first purchased my GoPro Hero HD it wasn’t long before I discovered a major flaw- all my underwater footage was blurry! This never happened with my Sanyo Xacti when shooting underwater and I was very confused about what was going on. As it turns out the curved lens distorts the video when shooting underwater. I checked on GoPro’s website and sure enough there is a mention of it in their FAQ. Technically GoPro only says the housing is waterproof and doesn’t actually market it as “underwater”, but they say they are developing a flat glass adapter for underwater use. Never-the-less I set out to find an existing solution and came across the Snake River Prototyping BlurFix.

Back in November the guys at EarthEasy saw that I was doing a lot of back country camping trips and asked if I would be willing to review their newest product the LifeStraw Personal Water Filter. Considering in a single year I had probably pumped over 1000 liters of water through my MSR Microworks EX I jumped at the chance to try a filter that required basically no effort to operate.

The principles of the two filters are relatively the same, both filter out waterborne bacteria and protozoa down to .2 microns, and both make no use of chemicals or batteries. The MSR uses a pump-action to push water through a carbon and ceramic filter, while the LifeStraw uses nothing more than the power of suction. The biggest difference between the two however is the price, The LifeStraw costs less than 20 dollars, while the Microworks EX sells for nearly 100. That price might sound steep to some but my Microworks EX has already proven itself in the toughest of conditions. Will the LifeStraw?

While it may be called Invisi-Braid, Spiderwire actually promotes this stuff as being translucent which is a long way from invisible. It is loose weaved which may help to push it to the invisible end of the translucent scale when wet but with loose weave comes some other issues.

Chris Jones of Piscatus.net recently posted his review of Spiderwire’s new Ultracast Invisi-Braid line on our forums and I was so impressed with his review that I asked him if I could republish it here in full. Luckily for us, he agreed! When you’re done reading go checkout Piscatus for some mouth dropping photography.

Since the dawn of the superline revolution I have used Fins PRT and Tuf-Line XP exclusively, depending on which one was available in my time of need. Both lines are very reasonably priced, have the right mix of memory and suppleness and have fairly low diameter for their test. I have even heard more than once that they effectively come out of the same factory but I can’t find any evidence of this.

So it came as a surprise to me when I went against the grain a brought home a spool of Spiderwire Ultracast Invisi-Braid to fill the new Stradic CI4. At almost twice the price of Fins and Tuf-Line this stuff had to be great!

I published this full-length review of Pure Alaska Salmon’s wild-caught canned Alaskan Salmon yesterday, but I’ve been so busy I forgot to post it to the main page. So here it is, I hope you’re hungry!

It’s been a while since we had a post as mouth-watering as this one, that’s normally Adam Guy’s arena these days. But despite the fact that I’m a good cook and a fisherman it’s not all that often that I’m eating fish at home. In fact, the last time I had a diet where I was eating fish consistently was in La Paz, where we ate Dorado, Snapper, and even Marlin and Tuna. Even then I left most of the cooking to friend and chef Micheal Leary. Still, I think I came up with a few really nice dishes made with Pure Alaska Salmon’s wild-caught canned salmon, like these fish cakes.

It’s been more than 9 days, 12 hours and 42 minutes since I stepped off the Fisher’s Grant, a tuna fishing boat docked in Cape George, Nova Scotia. Not a minute has passed since that I haven’t thought about that trip.

The day started with extraordinarily high hopes. The boats captain, A.J. Francis of Tuna Adventures had called me late the day before. I could hear the excitement in his voice. He told about the days events, “One of our best days yet!” Seven tuna hooked and four of them brought boat side before being gently released back into the depths. The biggest fish was an estimated 900+ pounds, while the smallest was a measly little 400 pounder. Hardly worth the trouble I’m sure.

My original plan was to make the three-hour drive up to Cape George early in the morning and have a quick nap before the sun came up and our adventure would begin. I was way too excited to sleep. Instead, I climbed the rocks near the marina and sat quietly, watching a bright red sun rise from the sea. A.J. arrived shortly after and greeted me with a big smile and firm handshake. We climbed on board his boat the Fisher’s Grant, a 45 foot fiberglass boat built by Doucette for one purpose, catching big fish. The first mate John Gavin arrived and within minutes we set off.
