Marlin VS Boat

There’s no doubt that marlin fishing can be some of the most dangerous big-game fishing out there. We’ve seen huge marlin jump right into the boat, several times, but I don’t think we’ve seen a boat capsized by one before.

Marlin VS Boat

Apparently the captain was “backing down”, a common practice where that captain puts the boat in reverse at full throttle to chase a running fish, when he fell and the boat took on too much water and sank. MARLIN WINS!

GTFO – GET THE FISH OUT!

With the invasion of the Asian Carp and their hostile takeover of our water systems (and airspace) it’s time we co-opted another popular internet acronym for ourselves. GTFO – GET THE FISH OUT! Our prayers go out to all the Americans, unable to defend themselves without the use of their assault rifles, killed in this waterborne kamikaze assault.

Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2013! This year is already shaping up to be great. We’ll have plenty of giveaways, a new design and more exciting content than ever before. I have high hopes for this fishing season and will be aiming to spend over 200 days fishing this year, a mark I fell just short of in 2012. Now that Jonathon and I are both back in Ontario we will be able to collaborate on several projects we have discussed. Be sure to stay tuned this year!

We’ll start things off with a laugh this year, a compilation of some of the funniest news bloopers of 2012, and yes, a fish will make an appearance at the 7:25 mark! Enjoy!

Welcome to Heartbreak

I had high hopes of coming back from my trip this weekend with an entry for the Zazzy Pop big fish contest, and while I did catch a number of large bass, none of them were on my Zazzy Pop lures. In fact early in to the trip I was shore fishing with my fly rod and slipped on a big rock. The resulting fall didn’t hurt, but the impact snapped my 8-12 Loop Evotech CLW reel right off the reel seat! Luckily my Pike Booster rod was fine.

I was pretty upset when it happened, especially since I’ve been so happy with the performance of the CLW up until now. I don’t expect it to survive a drop with nearly two hundred pounds of force coming down on it and I think that even a metal reel would have suffered damage in this case. Never-the-less I’ve even emailed Loop to see if there is anything they can do though I don’t have very high expectations since the CLW’s have been replaced by the XACT. In the meantime I’ve ordered a MULTi 6-9 from Outdoor Sport Canada that should hopefully get here before friday and I can get back to slinging Zazzy Pops!
