Navionics for the iPhone!

That’s right, now you can get quality water maps for your iPhone! That’s full coverage from the road to the water. The Canada lakes map is only $4.99 and I’ve purchased mine in advance to use on this weekends trip to Springwood Cottages on Kennebec Lake.

I’ve already taken a sneak peak at the map for this lake and the area where I will be staying and I must admit that I’m impressed with the detail. The only thing I’m concerned about is the accuracy of the assisted GPS. Needless to say I will be testing this quite a bit this weekend since I’m not familiar with the lake.

A big thanks to Martin who brought this product to my attention in the forums.

Wish me luck!

Flip on the Eat Switch!

There are a ton of new bass lures out this year and I hope to be reviewing a number of them when I return from this weekends trip to Kennebec Lake. The baits I’m most excited about this year are the new Trigger-X softbaits not only are they biodegradable, which is a huge selling point around here at Fishing Fury, but their are also individually packaged in some sweet species targeted pheromone juices. These are the first baits that I’m aware of that advertises the use of pheromones.

Trigger-X Softbaits

I’m will be putting them to the test this weekend for sure and hope they “Flip on the Eat Switch” as the tag line goes. Right now if you buy four Trigger-X baits they will send you one free when you send in the coupon on their website.

Check out the Trigger-X website for a full catalog of the forms and colours available. I’ve also taken a high-res shot of the flip side of the packaging for more information.

Bass Season Is Almost Here!

Bass season is already open all over the Unites states, but if you live in Ontario, Canada, you’ll have to wait until this Saturday to fish for them. I always loved fish bass when I lived in Ontario, and while I still fish for bass, my only option here in Nova Scotia is to fish for smallmouth. Now don’t get me wrong, I love smallie fishing, but there is something really special about getting a big largemouth.

Ontario Bass Facts:

  • The record smallmouth bass caught in Ontario is 9.84 lbs (4.46 kg)
  • The record largemouth bass caught in Ontario is 10.43 lbs (4.73 kg)
  • Smallmouth typically live in deeper water near rocks, sand, or gravel and prefer cooler temperatures then largemouth. The idea temperature is around 70°F (21°C).
  • Largemouth typically are found in shallow, warmer water with aquatic vegetation, wood and rocks and other cover. They usually prefer water temperatures between 79 to 81°F (26 to 27°C).

We’ll be dedicating the next few days to bass fishing, so stay tuned!

My Vacation In Cuba

I've been back from Cuba for a couple weeks now and I have had time to think back on the trip and reflect. I'd like to say it was a fishing trip, but it was actually a late honeymoon. My fishing time was limited to my sons nap times, which are never more then two hours long. The weather was great, the drinks were strong, and the fishing...well, you'll have to keep reading for that.
