I can’t seem to find the actual permalink to this on FishinInformer.com but my father forwarded me the email he got from their newsletter all about Rockstar Lures.
Hopefully I can post an update soon that includes a link to the full article.
It’s been more than 9 days, 12 hours and 42 minutes since I stepped off the Fisher’s Grant, a tuna fishing boat docked in Cape George, Nova Scotia. Not a minute has passed since that I haven’t thought about that trip.
The day started with extraordinarily high hopes. The boats captain, A.J. Francis of Tuna Adventures had called me late the day before. I could hear the excitement in his voice. He told about the days events, “One of our best days yet!” Seven tuna hooked and four of them brought boat side before being gently released back into the depths. The biggest fish was an estimated 900+ pounds, while the smallest was a measly little 400 pounder. Hardly worth the trouble I’m sure.
My original plan was to make the three-hour drive up to Cape George early in the morning and have a quick nap before the sun came up and our adventure would begin. I was way too excited to sleep. Instead, I climbed the rocks near the marina and sat quietly, watching a bright red sun rise from the sea. A.J. arrived shortly after and greeted me with a big smile and firm handshake. We climbed on board his boat the Fisher’s Grant, a 45 foot fiberglass boat built by Doucette for one purpose, catching big fish. The first mate John Gavin arrived and within minutes we set off.
I finally had the chance to sit down and play with some of my GoPro Hero HD footage, it was also the first time I took Final Cut Pro X for a spin. While many people have complained about the downsides of the new Final Cut, and the bizarre iMovie like interface that throws all your years of NLE (non-linear editing) out the window for a new “magnetic timeline”. I found that FCPX did a fantastic job of editing the 1080p source footage. In fact I edited and exported this video in the time it would have taken Final Cut Pro 7 to render it for playback!
There’s no fancy editing techniques in this video, I simply chopped out the boring stuff and used a built-in transition in between each of the clips. Feel free to crank it up to 1080p and fullscreen it for full effect.
I just watched this video Dave Mercer uploaded two days ago of him smashing smallmouth bass on Lake Erie and it really reminded me that I haven’t done any bass fishing this year.
If you haven’t visited our gallery in a while you might not know that I’ve uploaded several albums of photos from my various trips to Algonquin Park this year. It’s almost hard to believe I’ve already done a handful of trips there this year, and the year isn’t even over yet! Check out the photos, including this one of my friend Patrick with the biggest splake trout I’ve ever seen, not to mention Patrick’s now personal best, and the Snap Shot Ruler in action!
Yet another trip to Algonquin, but this time my friends and I check out some of the further south lakes and hope to find less crowded lakes and trails for the long weekend. We launched from Kingscote Lake, and spent nights on Branch Lake and Byers Lake where we also managed to catch some fish for dinner.
Agreed, swinging spiked bats around while water skiing is probably very dangerous. That said, I'm sure these guys are professionals :D
If I'm ever in Chicago it will be very tempting to make the 8 hour [...]
Sounds good to me Jon!
Yeah I'm always big on non-lead options too. Something about the reproductive toxicity of lead makes me uneasy in the nether regions.
