You would think that fishing for rare and endangered species of fish would be a really bad idea, but in Thailand its a great idea! What started as one mans hobby as turned into a lucrative business. A lake stocked with rare and exotic fish offers visiting fishermen the change to catch rare species of fish without having to remove them from their natural habitat. Lake Monster is one of the few places in the world where anglers have a good chance of catching species such as the dog eating catfish without damaging wild populations. The one rule, every fish must be released.
Okay, I’ll admit its a hefty 200MB download, the left channel is in Thai, and the right channel is in Japanese. But the fishing in this video is outstanding. Vertical jigging with Butterfly Jigs and similar lures, “yo-yo’ing” as David Jones likes to call it, has got to be one of the more tiresome ways you can fish. Now throw a 100 pound Yellowfin Tuna on the end of your line and you start to see just how awesome this video is.
It looks like a promotional video from a company called King Fisher, but I can’t seem to find anything about them.
Shimano also has a two really cool videos on Butterfly Jigs, one of which is a really nice introduction for those of you that are unfamiliar with this type of fishing.
& Of course, if you haven’t seen it already, theres the much disputed “jumping fish” video
Update: After numerous downloads with no feedback I have permanently removed this video.
Last week I did an interview with Bryn Weese (left) of the Toronto Sun about TTC accessible fishing spots around Toronto. Turns out that Bryn is an avid fisherman himself and we ended up talking about much more than could fit in the article.
