The owner of this house, Bill Heine, commissioned a shark sculpture to be built on his rooftop in 1986. When reports asked why, Bill said:
“The shark was to express someone feeling totally impotent and ripping a hole in their roof out of a sense of impotence and anger and desperation…. It is saying something about CND, nuclear power, Chernobyl and Nagasaki.”
He later added, “That, and sharks are bloody cool!”

“The headless sculpture, with the label “Untitled 1986″ fixed to the gate to the house, was erected on the 41st anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bomb on Nagasaki. Created by the sculptor John Buckley, it is made of fiberglass, weighs four hundredweight, and is 25 feet long.”

Earlier this year, a good size swordfish washed up on a beach in south Wales and now an ever rarer fish has shown up, a blue marlin. This 9ft 6in specimen was found dead on a beach in West Wales and is said to be the first marlin ever ‘caught’ in Wales. Normally the blue marlin is found in the warmer waters of the Mid Atlantic and Caribbean.

“To find one on the beach in Britain is unheard of and I’ve been told this is the first one recorded in British waters.”

Here’s the first time we’ve seen a tench on Fishing Fury. This beauty two pounder was caught by Mark in England.

Hi mate, no cats the other night but my 1st Tench. It was only 2lbs, but if you get one at 6lbs or over it’s considered a trophy so I wasn’t too gutted. They have a lovely Bass green but you cant see it with the flash.
This massive 69lb 8oz catfish was caught by Bev Street smashing the womens record for largest freshwater fish in Britain. The fish was hooked early in the morning while Mrs Street was fast asleep! After waking to the rod alarm, she battled the beast for more then an hour before she was able to land it.

Mrs Street, 46, from Skegness, said: “For me, it isn’t about breaking other people’s records. I’m not interested in the limelight.

Mark was sure he had caught his personal best carp, but this beauty fell just short.

When it came to the net I was convinced I had my PB and guessed 17. I was surprised when it only hit 15. I was convinced it was heavier!
In other news, I’ve reviewed all of our submissions for the first half of 2008, and you have narrowly beat out the competition with the most contributions (photos, videos, articles, links, comments…) to Fishing Fury. I’ll contact you about your prize right away!
Reader submissions have already been great in the second half of 2008, so keep contributing to win prizes!
I did a ton of perch fishing when I was growing up. Perch was always about quantity rather then quality though, and my catches rarely exeeded 10 inches in length. British waters are known for much bigger perch then we see in Canada though, just take a look at this 5lbs 15oz catch by Les Brown.

This is potential VERY bade news for any fisherman. Giant snakehead are known for eating just about anything and is incredibly resilient, surviving not only in water, but on land where it is able to ‘crawl’ around. When kept as pets, these fish have been known to escape their tanks and attack other pets. Giant snakehead can grow up to three feet long, and apparently have been known to also attack and kill humans. These fish are native to South-East Asia but have somehow made it into the waters of North America, and now Britain. Because of the great damage they can cause to other fish species, it is recommended that you kill these fish if you should catch one outside of its native waters.
