Andrew there are tons of great resources on this site, but also check out the Toronto Fishing Ambassadors (a group of which I'm a part, but unfortunately have not volunteered enough recently as I'm between jobs). Several of the members are on this board and they're not only great help to new fishermen, they're great people in general.

I usually don't fish the Islands until April...too busy icefishing and steelhead in winter and spring.

To be honest, fishing isn't that great (in my personal experience) over at the island for pike and carp in the winter...much better in the spring, summer and fall.

If you do plan to go, fish the Eastern Gap in the winter. The deeper water is where pike and carp hold over in the winter. Again, not from personal experience, but things I've heard from people I met fishing on the Islands.

I was at the Eastern Gap on Saturday. I didn't see any sign of Carp but the Pike were biting.
