So , had set up with one of my buddies for an outing on Couchaching. A lake to say the least has had my number pretty much everytime ive been out. I cant tell you how many times within a 2 year span i headed back to this lake only to get clobbered again and again.

Vic who brought his rig fished with his uncle and i fished with my lady ( which was nice )

With fall approaching I can see this lake transforming already. This time out i had established a plan of attack early and noticed it fit very well with a pattern i had used on lake st.clair the previous week. Theres alot of water to cover on this type of lake for starters with about 50 immediate spots if you look on a chart you would notice and mark to fish. I've thrown alot of stuff at these fish in previous attempts but stuck with the drop shot.

To put it in simple terms , the fish are there . You might not spot them that much , it might not be water you would typically fish but if you stick to it and take your time these fish do show up... I've nailed down the locations of fish and now i need to fine tune this approch in finding the bigger fish near by .. Typically call this firecracker and depending on the depths you fish , moving around on this lake could unlock the bigger fish simply by variating depths a bit...

Despite it being a short day , we ended up winning the friendly we had.

We caught a limit within 1 - 1.5 hours of starting and pretty much worked at gaining size ..

The results werent anything to brag about but heres a few pics of some of the fish. One fish which we didnt have a photo of actually was tagged . Which is usually done by the ministry or a large sponsored tournament like the Bass Pro Simcoe Open.

Couchaching is a rocky lake and sister to Simcoe just north with a small channel connecting the two. If you've ever been in the channel there are a stack of largemouth in the 4 - 6 lb range that wont sniff at anything you throw their way..

Nice looking smallies, grats! The tagged fish have like a number to call or report the catch too? Interesting...

if you don't mind telling, what are you drop shotting? Poor man's? Gulp alives? size, colour? any info would be appreciated as I'm trying to solve the smallies in Sparrow.

The most successful drop shot technique around these areas consists of Strike Zone Slammers , you wont find them at bass pro or anything like that .. they are available online for order or you can get them at local tackle shops ... like Fishing Depot , or Fishing World for example ...

Mark Kulik a Canadian Pro created them and they have been very popular on simcoe , and really any lake you can think of ... its a very simple design with a goby imitation ... colors ? well it depends on the lake ... Couch and Sparrow will fish very differently even though they are connected ...

on Sparrow i have found to work the weeds with jigs and worms , the two smaller islands near the channel in the middle of the lake often holds some nice fish if you run a smitwhick rogue ... it seems like more of a large mouth fishery although theres some real nice smallies there aswell ....
