So about the time on friday i recieved the alway appreciated text from jon about fishing plans this weekend. I was unfortunatly already on the water prefishing couch for a bigger then usual club event on saturday . At the time of the text i was already dialed into my game and had located some schools aswell as the pattern which was working . Heck I was about to leave the water !

On saturday the event was on and York Bassmasters ( my club ) was hosting an event in which Hogtown Bassmasters were joining aswell ! We turned out around 14 boats and we were also sharing the waters with KW Bassmasters who were running their own small event however theirs included simcoe.

Alot was on the line for my partner as he was 1 win away from stealing Angler of the year points for our club and overtaking the current leader ( whos been on top the whole year almost and also what will be my partner for the following Fall Challenge in Orillia October 3 /4 )

We started our day hitting my first good spot where i had located my initial school , surrounded by boats left and right on my first cast i ended up nabbing about a 4 lber and a much needed instand kicker fish. We ended up going about a fish an hour as the conditions being super calm after the morning really killed the bite. My partner Dave ended up nabbing 2 more off my secondary spot aswell as lossing one on bent hook.

Till about 2pm and an hour left we started to panic a bit. We had 3 quality fish but desperetly needed to turn out a limit to stand a chance as someone of 14 was bound to have a good bag ! This is when my mid day pattern finally payed off . My partner nabbed another keeper and we were almost in business . Shortly after I began to finally pick up my own slack and nabbed 3 more to the end culling out pretty much the rest of our small fish .. closing out with 15 mins to spare to get back. My guess was initially to be around 15 - 16 lbs which at this time of year with the bigger fish moving in and eventually closer into fall would eventually fatten up some more we would have been around the 18 - 20 lbs mark which is exceptional and with 2 days on the fall challenge put us into contention for a big win ...

None the less , we weighed in first and what would set the mark for the weight to beat. We ended up with 15.02 a solid 3 lbs average on a lake i have known to struggle. We had the lead until near the end when 1 hogtown boat weighted 15.26 and then kelly dean from our club nabbed the top spot backto york with a 16 + lb bag.

Angler of the Year and points wise Dave missed it by about a 1lbs. As for our points it was still amongst york standings ... So overall in the money we finished 3rd , and York member we finished 2nd again 1 spot short for Dave to steal the title in the very last event this year.

Nonetheless it was a valiant effort ! I accomplished what i had hoped for which was to be in contention to win with a good position and be in the money for overall confidence as my year started slowly .

We had a great outing and I loved the look on my buds face not only when we nabbed that first fish right in his face but had him pacing till the kelly weighed in and relieved him. Nothing like giving him a lil scare ... In this game things can change in ounces !

To say the least we are looking for a good performance on couch for the fall challenge and we will definetly be sharing our spots with Vic having great largemouth spots and my having those smallies dialed in.. We should be a solid contender this year.

heres a photo from our fish we weighed in ...

Actually this isn't one of my actual partners . This was a club event and we were randomly paired... Nonetheless hes a good guy , funny story though. He used to be a model in Europe ! Yes thats his real hair , hes a cool dude , good on the water ..

My actual partner for this years fall challenge is Victor Capobianco who was the eventual club angler of the year.
