View Full Version : Typical spring trip in New England

I just found out I’m going to get out in the harbor tomorrow on a friend’s boat. We are planning on starting out in our “secret spot” to try for a limit of winter flounder (8 fish at 12”) with a few yellow tail flounder thrown in (13” no limit but we only ever get a few each trip). After that we’ll try for some striped bass which are definitely here (a little early this season.). I’m hoping for a nice mixed bag and a good start to the saltwater season.
This time I’ll definitely post some pics of the fish fry if we have good luck. Also some pics of our trip/catch.

Here is a couple of pictures of parts of Gloucester Harbor
We limited out in 2 hours. The rules say 8 fish per person at 12”. We put a voluntary 14” limit on ourselves and even then pretty much only kept fish over 16” unless they were hooked badly (only a couple). The population here is in really good shape and I think we only had to throw back 2 fish that would we were legally required to (threw back plenty that were under “our” limit).
Here are two of the flounder. I also have some pictures of their eventual fate on the dinner plate.
