Just would like to see what type of knots you guys use when tying a flouro leader to braid. I feel the strongest knot for me is red phillips knot. I tie a decent improved albright but have more confidence in the phillips. What knots do you guys use? Any Idea on what knot reduces the line strength the least?

I generally use a uni to uni knot. I could see the Red Phillips knot working well if the leader material is significantly thicker in diameter than the braid.

Im personally a huge fan of the seaguar knot, works great on braids when youre flouro isnt too huge. You're not gonna be tying 100# leaders with this stuff, but the 30-40# stuff works fine. It's also an easy knot to tie and remember.

Never seen that one before, looks easy enough though...Trouble is, all my lines are tied against barrel swivels, never another line!

That's not a bad option when you have really small swivels or you dont have to worry about your swivels going through the eyes of your rod. You can use micro swivels for this purpose, and I've done so when float fishing for stealhead.

Swivels are an option and I've used them as well. I just figure the less weak points the better. I.e. Having just two knots instead of three. And if a swivel ever does take a knickOut of the inside of a guide it's like a razor to your braid. But saying that I haven't had much problemUsing a swivel just personal preference to tie them together. This site is a great resource to hear others ideas and ways of doing things, thanks guys.

I've used micro swivels when attaching leaders, backing, etc on my heavy conventional reels. The swivel passes through the eyes on the drop and retrieve. I wouldn't use them on reels I'm going to be casting with. Wouldn't the swivel slow down the cast and also have a greater chance of damaging the eyes at high speed? Am I missing something?

Yea I've only ever used the micro swivels for float fishing and they never pass through the eyes of the rod.

My main line attaches to a 12 inch lead core leader, which passes through a 2 and a quarter ounce lead weight which is attached by a swivel to my hair rig...I stop reeling in the line when the lead core leader is getting near the top of the end of my rod, it is only ever the main line that passes through the eyes.
