Well took a trip over to the islands on saturday, was nice and warm, but overcast so I thought my chances where good.
Took the ferry over to Hanlans point, started straight away on the large inner channel with spinners. Had a follow from a fairly decent pike 1st cast, but then nothing, tried swapping to soft baits, minnow baits but nothing.
Worked my way down a little further and bashed my way through the bushes to find a nice sandy bay where carp where feeding, so opened the sweetcorn and changed my setup to a lift waggler setup. Got the carp feeding then cast in. the fish where at this point feeding confidently until some bloke fishing in a canoe comes over to ask if Ive caught anything, straight through my swim. The fish did one.
At this point, the mosquitoes where winning and I was starting to hurt, so swapped back to the spinning setup and carried on down to the old wooden jetties, spent a good hour working the area here, again with a number of baits but nothing, and the weed was a real pain.
From here until the trout point I couldnt really fish, purely because of the number of boats/boat traffic. even tried a few casts in the trout pond.
Ended up round towards central island only to find they had dragon boat races on. It was that type of day.
So I continued to try my luck, by this point I was getting pi$$ed off with the amount of weed I was hooking up to. Anyhow by the grandstand Im casting out, then 2 big bass (1st time Ive seen them properly, prob 4lb mark) come swimming past. That was it, I was sulking.
So swan pond it was, usually I can pick a carp up, but this time they where to bothered spawning, just not interested at all, anyhow spied a small catfish and kept throwing a spinner across the front of it that it would chase but not take, so put a small crub softbait on and managed to get it, only about half a pound but it was a fish.
Finally I tried the small channel to the east of the central dockings, by the small bridge, Ive caught every trip here but not today. I finally jumped back on a ferry at about 5pm with the worst day Ive had on the islands.
Someone, please please, tell me what I need to be doing lol
Ben don`t worry...havent you caught eveytime you have been out...thats pretty good, and you still didn`t get skunked...when bass season hits...worm will be the bait that doesn`t quit...but keep on trying...soon oh real soon bass as big as your head!! can`t wait
From the sounds of it I really need to figure out where I can go find myself/dig up some worms to take with me.
As for the missing the fishing back home, yeah I am abit, suppose its because im alot more familiar with it and the selection at home is better for tackle and the like. Her everything is aimed around arificial lures/ spinners/ plastic worms and that.
