SO EXCITED...first day of fishing in non-iced water in 2010
My friend came into school today and told me that his lake is completely clear of ice (with the exception of one small chunk), and tomorrow, we'll be fishing it up! I don't really expect to catch much, but I've been waiting for this day for what seems like an eternity. It's in the 40s here, and rainy/overcast, any recommendations for how we can make this spectacular event even more spectacular (FISH!)?

I know man, I'm getting antsy! Not to mention, I got a brand new rod and reel for Christmas that have been sitting in my room for months just taunting me... but the important thing is, I get to break 'em out tomorrow! Hopefully we can scrounge up a few pickerel, though merely casting will be good enough for the present.

Ice out fishing is pretty tough, good luck!
What reel did you end up getting?

I got a good deal on a Daiwa Trillionaire. It seemed like a pretty good buy for my first baitcaster, as it's basically just a black Exceler. I dunno, it had mixed reviews, so we'll see. The rod I got is an an Abu-Garcia Vendetta, the 6'3" med. rod. It got really good reviews, and guaranteed you will not finder a sicker looking fishing rod. I ended up paying like $120 for the combo, and so far, I'm pleased...not that I've used it yet, so I suppose I'm mainly just pleased with the fantastic appearance hahahah.

My suggestion is whatever you fish, fish it slowly. Perhaps a small dropshot worm.

Ouch man, that's too bad. We didn't catch anything, but we were kinda giving it a half-effort. It was sweet to able to get out there though.

A bad day fishing still beats a good day at work!

We’re in a bad place here on the North Shore of Boston, ice on pretty much all the water but none of it is really safe enough to risk fishing through.
