The Steelhead Report
Over the weekend Dave (dnaluz) and I went out hunting for steelhead. While we didn't catch any ourselves we did see some pretty big ones caught by a few other guys- one was easily 10-15 pounds! This trip was mostly a learning experience, heavy on practicing things like casting, re-tying, untangling my line, etc.
In terms of a fishing experience it was like starting from scratch again. Such is the case with new equipment and styles, but I had a lot of fun! We will be heading out again next week and should be able to land some fish to make the experience complete.
Here are some photos from the trip. These are just off my iPhone (which I love shooting with btw).

A few more photos. The photos of the snow on my jacket were both to show the massive snow flakes that started falling on us, but also as part of my testing of this kiwi weather protection spray that Im reviewing. The jacket is a misty mountain canoeing jacket, and I know from my experience canoeing that this jacket is pretty water resistant, but after a few minutes in heavy rain or snow it will start to soak the garment. So far the spray has held up perfectly, and even made cleaning my jacket later a breeze. Mud and exploded salmon roe came right off with a simple wipe from a clean damp papertowel.
Oh and the last photo is of a massive beaver that swam past us a few times.

Looks like fun! Hopefully you guys will hook into some next time. Could you explain how you were using that roe?

Re: The Steelhead Report
Roe was rigged on a float setup. A float followed by a few split shot spread over 3 feet of line or so. Then a 3-4 foot floro lead to a 10-12 gamakatsu octopus hook. The hook is through the bag hidden as much as possible. Il hake better pictures next time I go out.
