My First, Second, Third, and Fourth Lake Trout

As many of you know I've been doing a lot of trip to Algonquin National Park. The place is pretty stacked with lake trout and brook trout, two fish I've never caught before. Well on my last trip I rigged up a gold williams wobbler on a three way rig, the bottom swivel held about 3 feet of line with at 3/8oz weight, and the other had 4 feet of line to my williams wobbler. The rig allows you to troll light spoons from the back of a canoe pretty easily. And sure enough on our second night as the sun was setting and this golden aura appeared we could see trout hitting the surface of the water. My friend Keith and I set out to try and catch some dinner paddling straight for the boils we could see in the water and sure enough we caught four lake trout in a row! They were all about 18" and about a pound each. I would have loved to catch a monster 20 pounder, but since we were fishing for a meal it couldn't have worked out better. These pictures were taken by my friend Matt who was also with us, I didn't take any pictures on this trip, I have more photos that I will be putting up in an official gallery later this week. The fish tasted great, I gutted them and removed the heads on an island far away from our camp and we cooked them over the campfire with a little added lemon juice.

    Nice Catch, What Lakes

    Hello,
Every summer I make a trip up to Algonquin specifically for good fishing. Last couple of year's I have been on Cedar Lake (way North - 6 hr from Toronto).
Mainly getting nice Rainbow's Brook Trout, Bass (Monsters) and suckers, etc. It is stocked.
They do have Lakers, but they are way down and always been kinda wavey for it.

What lake were you fishing on in this picture.
I know some really good spots on Cedar Lake

    Evan

Nice work man!I've read a lot about that kind of rig for lake trout. I have yet to give it a shot. What size of Williams were you rocking?

whats the give away to tell if its a laker and not splake? Curious. I can only tell if i get a brightly coloured one like a speck but with forked tail. But sometimes I have no idea. I just figure if i catch em shallow in the summer they are splake.

The splake ive seen in the past have a much brighter skin overall or just a brighter (red) belly, Ive even seen them with crazy maze like patterns on their sides. To tell you the truth though, one of these could have easily been a splake and not a laker. But I'm pretty sure they were all lakers.
